The authors develop a system of differential equations describing the motion of the structural system equipped with DFP bearings. The Runge-Kutta numerical method, specifically the ode15s function in MATLAB, was used to solve these equations. The results of the calculations provide a comparison of the damping efficiency of the structural system with and without the use of DFP bearings, assessing the effectiveness of vibration isolation during an earthquake, with three components X, Y, and vertical considered.

This research aims to numerically simulate the performance of the tested PC utility poles using Applied Element Method (AEM) and Finite Element Method (FEM). The simulation results demonstrate that both AEM and FEM effectively reproduce the load-displacement relationship observed in the test. Additionally, this study discusses the material models employed in simulations, considering the limitations inherent in numerical modeling.

In the course of current research the procedure of obtaining of the piecewise linear vibration systems time and frequency responses have been developed. The method is partly analytical and partly numerical and is based on combining of linear solutions of different sections in a cycle of motion. In a row with the method of obtaining of the exact steady state time and frequency response, also it is provided sensitivity analysis of the vibration isolator.

This thesis investigates the SPH capability available in the commercial Finite Element (FE) code LS-DYNA®, for water impact problems. Experiments have been conducted on rigid wedges impacting water, which were then simulated with the SPH method. Although certain limitations were experienced with the experimental results, a positive correlation was observed with the numerical technique, thus establishing SPH as a promising method for crashworthiness design.

This search resulted in the development of a practical software tool based on animated Venn diagrams (Dvenn) that attempted to exploit the inherent human ability to perceive quantities visually, a faculty described herein as visual numeracy. The exploitation of this faculty is considered here to be a valuable aid for group understanding of business presentation data. The development of the tool was an essential part of the research that was undertaken and the resulting software forms a significant portion of this practise based research.

The paper presents the ground effects on the flow over five NACA symmetrical airfoils by analyzing the coefficients of lift. The unbounded flow over a selected airfoil was first simulated, and the results were validated against the established data in order to validate the method used in obtaining the lift coefficients.

Anharmonic effective potential, local force constant and correlation effects in XAFS of BCC crystals
Analytical expressions for the anharmonic effective potential, local force constant, Displacement-displacement Correlation Function (DCF) CR and Debye-Waller factor described by the Mean Square Relative Displacement (MSRD) σ2 and by the Mean Square Displacement (MSD) u2of bcc crystals in the X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) have been derived. The effective interatomic potential of the system has been considered by taking into account the influences of nearest atomic neighbors, and it contains the Morse potential characterizing the interaction of each pair of atoms.

The final goal of the work is to provide useful recommendations and guidelines for the design of a cold plug for the emergency draining system of a molten salt reactor. Some numerical thermal simulations were performed with ANSYS mechanical (Finite Element Method) to be compared with results of the experiments and to make extrapolations for a new component to be used in a reactor.

The present work summarizes some recent experimental, theoretical and numerical results on brittle fracture of isostatic polycrystalline graphite. The analyses have been carried out on V-notched samples under mixed mode (I+II), torsion and compression loading, considering various combinations of the notch tip radius, opening angle and notch tilt angle.

Metabolite channelling, the process in which consecutive enzymes have confined substrate transfer in metabolic pathways, has been proposed as a biochemical mechanism that has evolved because it enhances catalytic rates and protects unstable intermediates. Results from experiments on the synthesis of radioactive urea [Cheung, C., Cohen, N.S. & Raijman, L (1989)J. Biol. Chem.264, 4038–4044] have been interpreted as implying channelling of arginine between argininosuccinate lyase and arginase in permeabi-lized hepatocytes. ...

Prion diseases such as Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease are pos-sibly caused by the conversion of a normal cellular glyco-protein, the prion protein (PrP c ) into an abnormal isoform (PrP Sc ). The process that causes this conversion is unknown, but to understand it requires a detailed insight into the normal activity of PrP c . It has become accepted from results of numerous studies that PrP c is a Cu-binding protein and that its normal function requires Cu.

Dermaseptin PD-3-7 (aDrs) from frog skin contains three aspartic acid resi-dues resulting in a negative net charge at neutral pH, as opposed to numer-ous other dermaseptins which are cationic helical antimicrobial peptides. Still, this peptide can be fitted into an amphipathicahelix by an Edmundson wheel projection.

The goal of this work is to give a precise numerical description of the K¨hler cone of a compact K¨hler manifold. Our main result states that the a a K¨hler cone depends only on the intersection form of the cohomology ring, the a Hodge structure and the homology classes of analytic cycles: if X is a compact K¨hler manifold, the K¨hler cone K of X is one of the connected components of a a the set P of real (1, 1)-cohomology classes {α} which are numerically positive on analytic cycles, i.e. Y αp 0 for every irreducible analytic...

We develop an analogue for sphere packing of the linear programming bounds for error-correcting codes, and use it to prove upper bounds for the density of sphere packings, which are the best bounds known at least for dimensions 4 through 36. We conjecture that our approach can be used to solve the sphere packing problem in dimensions 8 and 24. Contents 1. Introduction 2. Lattices, Fourier transforms, and Poisson summation 3. LYAPUNOV FUNCTIONALS CONSTRUCTION FOR STOCHASTIC DIFFERENCE SECOND-KIND VOLTERRA EQUATIONS WITH CONTINUOUS TIME LEONID SHAIKHET Received 4 August 2003 The general method of Lyapunov functionals construction which was developed during the last decade for stability investigation of stochastic differential equations with aftereffect and stochastic difference equations is considered. It is shown that after some modification of the basic Lyapunov-type theorem, this method can be successfully used also for stochastic difference Volterra equations with continuous time usable in mathematical models.

Although numerous molecular changes have been reported in VSCC, biomarkers of clinical relevance are still lacking. On the other hand, there is emerging evidence on the use of mtDNA as a diagnostic tool in oncology.
