Glycosides of 4-nitrocatechol (1,2-dihydroxy 4-nitrobenzene) with α-D-glucopyranose and α-D-mannopyranose were synthesized by the glycosylation of phenol with peracetylated sugars in the presence of BF3·OBu2 . The glycoside of 4-nitrocatechol with β -D-galactopyranose was prepared by the glycosylation of this phenol as sodium phenoxide with tetra-O-benzoyl-α-D-galactopyranosyl bromide.

An investigation was undertaken on fractionation of secondary metabolites from Ocimum sanctum and Aloe barbadensis Mill to check their antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger and Sclerotium rolfsii. Isolation of secondary metabolites was done by cold percolation and soxhlet extraction method with Methanol. Cold percolation method was found effective to get more phytochemicals. Analysis was done to check the presence of phytochemicals likes Alkaloids, Tannins, Saponins, Phenols, Flavonoids, Glycosides, Steroids and Terpenoids. Also qualitative tests viz.

The use of cereal grains as sources of food for man is well known. Different food products are obtained from grains based on the processing technique and the type of cereal employed. Although the causes of malnutrition are many and diverse, inadequate intake of foods and essential nutrients is a major contributory factor and yet this subject is poorly researched in many developing countries including Nigeria. This research was conducted in Jigawa State Nigeria. Were a total of 1,500 questionnaires were administered and 1,250 retrieved.

Glycyrrhiza glabra, commonly known as licorice, is a popular herbal supplement used for the treatment of chronic inflammatory conditions and as sweetener in the food industry. This species contains a myriad of phytochemicals including the major saponin glycoside glycyrrhizin (G) of Glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) aglycone. In this study, 2D-ROESY NMR technique was successfully applied for distinguishing 18a and 18b glycyrrhetinic acid (GA). ROESY spectra acquired from G. glabra, Glycyrrhiza uralensis and Glycyrrhiza inflata crude extracts revealed the presence of G in its b-form.
