In recent years, the prediction of the effective transport properties have received a great number of investigations. The present work is dedicated to determining the effective permeability of two-dimensional (2D) doubly porous materials made of an isotropic permeable solid matrix in which elliptical shaped pores of any size are embedded.

The objective of this study was to explore a non-analytical but empirical and mathematical method for the determination of pore size and pore density of several polymeric tailor-made membranes. The proposed method used the fractional rejection concept of solute in membrane pores.

This work aimed to introduce nanosized SiO2 into the CS matrix to produce three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds by solvent casting combined with salt leaching using NaCl as a porogen agent. The amount of the porogen to polymer was varied to produce 3D CS/SiO2 scaffolds with suitable pore sizes and porosity.

The osteogenic capability of the scaffold is influenced by the interconnections between the scaffold pores which facilitate cell distribution, integration with the host tissue and capillary ingrowth. Hence, the preparation of bone scaffolds with applicable pore size and interconnectivity is a significant issue in bone tissue engineering

The modeling and numerical simulation of mass transport in porous media is discussed in this work by using the so-called pore size distribution for computing transport properties. The pore-size distribution is a property of the pore structure of a porous medium. This can be used to estimate the different transport properties, amongst other, the permeability. By starting with a formula for the absolute permeability, the simulation of water and oil transport in reservoirs is considered by solving mass conservation equations with the help of the control volume method.

The experimental results indicated that carbon aerogels obtained by using ambient pressure drying showed BET surface area, density, average pore size, total pore volumes in the range of 459.7–522.1 m2 /g, 0.167–0.629 g/cm3 , 19.45 Å, and 0.259 cm3 /g, respectively. The activation process with CO2 was influence to properties of carbon aerogels and it can improve the surface area reach about 779 m 2 /g. Thus, depending on the applications, carbon aerogels can be synthesized at different conditions.

The thesis has found a new method to increase the pore size of mesoporous carbon by filling the liquid glass into the pore of the template (silica SBA-15) before impregnating the carbon presource to limit the penetration of carbon sealed the pore system of SBA-15. Stability of mesoporous carbon is increases due to silicon are partially retained in materials. This technique opens the way of synthesis of mesoporous carbon as an adsorbent with a desired pore size and stability.

A crucial turn in the investigation on NO decomposition occured when Iwamoto et al [1] first found that copper-exchanged zeolites, in particular Cu-ZSM-5 zeolites, were effective catalysts for NO decomposition. These catalysts have been the object of the most active investigations ever since. Due to small pore size of zeolites, the reactant diffusion seems play an important part in the reaction kinetics. This article is aimed to evaluate the role of diffusion by means of activation energy of NO decomposition on Me/Zeolites ZSM-5 and mordenit.

Investigations of kinetics of p-xylene deep oxidation on CuO/ -Al2O3 and CuO/ZSM-5 have been carried out. Specific surface area and pore size of catalyst samples as well as metallic state characteristics and catalytic properties of copper have been established. Catalyst CuO/ZSM-5 has been found to be more active than the first one, but it expressed lower stability because of less stable active form of Cu2+ on zeolite surface.

Al-MSU mesoporous materials were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal treatment using water glass as a Si-sources. The obtained samples were characterized by different techniques such as x-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared resonance (IR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The specific surface area (SBET) and mesopore volume, pore size distribution were determined by BET method. The results showed that the Al-MSU mesoporous materials were hexagonal p6mm structure.

TiO2 thin film with nanoporous structure are prepared from colloidal suspension containing polyethylen glycol (PEG) via Sol-Gel method. The effect of PEG addition to the precursor solution on the surface structures and photocatalytic activity of the resultant thin films are studied. The larger the amount of PEG added to to the precursor solution, the larger the size and number of pores produced in the resultant films when PEG added to the gel films decomposed completely during heat-treatment.

Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) separates polymer molecules and biomolecules based on differences in their molecular size. The separation process in simplified form is based on the ability of sample molecules to penetrate inside the pores of packing material and is dependent on the relative size of analyte molecules and the respective pore size of the absorbent. The process also relies on the absence of any interactions with the packing material surface. Two types of SEC are usually distinguished: 1. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC)—separation of synthetic (organic-soluble) polymers.
