Cardiac hypertrophy (CH), leading to cardiac failure is due to chronic metabolic alterations occurring during cellular stress. Besides the already known relationship between oxidative stress and CH, there are implications of reductive stress leading to CH. This study attempted to develop reductive stress-based CH rat model using n-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), a glutathione agonist that was compared with typical isoproterenol (ISO) induced CH model.

The performance of computer aided ECG analysis depends on the precise and accurate delineation of QRS-complexes. This paper presents an application of K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm as a classifier for detection of QRS-complex in ECG. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on two manually annotated standard databases such as CSE and MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database. In this work, a digital band-pass filter is used to reduce false detection caused by interference present in ECG signal and further gradient of the signal is used as a feature for QRS-detection.

Supraventricular tachycardia may be caused by abnormal conduction pathways such as the Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome, characterised on the ECG by a short P- R interval and an abnormal delta wave on the upstroke of the QRS complex. The child may develop sudden episodes of tachycardia associated with heart rates of 240beats/min, up to 300beats/min. These appear on ECG as narrow complex rhythms. The child may feel faint and uncomfortable during an arrhythmia.

An atrial depolarisation wave (P wave), a ventricular depolarisation wave (QRS complex) and a ventricular repolarisation wave (T wave) are successively recorded for each cardiac cycle (Figures 1A–C). As these different waves are recorded from different sites (leads) the morphology varies (Figure 2).Nevertheless, the sequence is always P–QRS–T.
