The single-orbital Anderson impurity model using graphene as the host material is considered for the case where the impurity is placed on top of a carbon atom of the graphene lattice. This is an excellent setup for the r = 1 pseudogap impurity model, where there exists a quantum phase transition from the free local moment phase to the Kondo screening phase.

A variety of experimental realizations of binary atomic Bose-Fermi mixtures have brought opportunities for studying composite quantum systems with different spin-statistics. The binary atomic mixtures can exhibit a structural transition from a mixture into phase separation as the boson-fermion interaction increases.

Numerical results show that there exist quantum condensations of any component at appropriate regions of coupling constants corresponding to its positive effective chemistry potential, i.e. to its dynamic stability. In addition, the phase quantum transitions of both first and second order appear when the coupling constant changes.

Quantum phase transition and dynamical stability in Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) are studied within the framework of the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis (CJT) effective action approach. The effective potential is found in the double-bubble diagram approximation. Numerical results show that in this approximation stability is strongly influenced by the chemical potential and the quantum phase transition is of second order.

A renormalization prescription is developed for CJT effective action in the double bubble approximation. It is shown that the triviality-related feature of the model does not show up. The phase transitions patterns are considered in detail for a specified set of model parameters.

The thermal and quantum phase transitions are studied basing on the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis (CJT) effective action approach for the relativistic linear sigma model of the two-component mixing system. After obtaining the expression of the thermodynamic potential in Hartree-Fock (HF) approximation, which preserves the Goldstone theorem, the numerical results show that there may be two phase transition scenarios in the system.

One of the major advances of science in the 20th century was the discovery of a mathematical formulation of quantum mechanics by Heisenberg in 1925 [94].1 From a mathematical point of view, this transition from classical mechanics to quantum mechanics amounts to, among other things, passing from the commutative algebra of classical observables to the noncommutative algebra of quantum mechanical observables. To understand this better we recall that in classical mechanics an observable of a system (e.g. energy, position, momentum, etc.
