Ebook "Percutaneous absorption of UV filters contained in sunscreen cosmetic products: Development of analytical methods" describes the development and validation of analytical methods to estimate the processes set in motion by percutaneous absorption of UV filters in sunscreen cosmetic products. León describes these methods in both in vitro and non-invasive in vivo methodologies. Currently dermatologists recommend the use of sunscreen products not only under conditions of extreme exposure to the sun but also in daily situations.

Previous calculations of the γ dose given to Risø Calibration Quartz (RCQ) were performed using mass absorption and mass attenuation coefficients. In this paper, we update the γ dose given to RCQ using Geant4 simulations and provide a comparison with three other γ sources in Denmark.

The paper "The photoluminescence enhancement of Mn2+ ions and the crystal field in ZnS:Mn nanoparticles covered by polyvinyl alcohol" report the synthesis of ZnS:Mn/PVA nanoparticles by second method, in which PVA solution is mixed from the beginning with the initial solutions used to synthesize ZnS:Mn nanoparticles. The microstructures, morphology of ZnS:Mn/PVA nanoparticles, the PL enhancement of Mn2? ions by different PVA mass, the absorption and radiation transitions in the ZnS:Mn crystals and the crystal field strength Dq are investigated and explained.

Plant absorption of ultraviolet (UV) radiation can result in multiple deleterious effects to plant tissues. As a result, plants have evolved an array of strategies to protect themselves from UV radiation, particularly in the UV-B range (280–320 nm).

The performance of a microwave absorbing material (MAM) is often characterized by a negative reflection loss (RL) which is due to the material’s strong absorption and weak reflection of electromagnetic radiation. An absolute absorption can theoretically be achieved in a MAM that has equal permittivity and permeability (er=ur) to satisfy the impedance matching condition Z=Z0 (Z and Z0 are the intrinsic impedance of the material and the impedance of incident medium, respectively).

The commercial nanoparticles ZnO with - P63mc hexagonal structure, particle size of hundreds of nanometer and band gap energy about of 3.26 eV have been used on photocatalyst for methylene blue. The results showed that: as increasing irradiated time from 30 minutes to 120 minutes by 365 nm radiation of Narva LT 18W ultra - violet lamp, the color of methylene-blue and ZnO mixture were depleted gradually, in which the absorptance and photoluminescence intensity were also decreased.

In this report, we experimentally and numerically demonstrated a simple metamaterial structure, which perfectly absorbs the microwave radiation. Samples are prepared using the photo-lithography technique and measured by the standard microwave vector network analyzer. Simulations using the finite integration technique are performed to explore the possible mechanism of the observation. It is found that the absorbed energy not only dissipates via material losses, as it was believed, but also reradiates as secondary sources.

After the absorption of the photons, during the photovoltaic conversion process, one part of the radiation remains unabsorbed causing the cell to overheat and thus a drop in efficiency. The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of junction temperature, geographic coordinates as well as the season on the electrical performance of the photovoltaic cell.

The excitation spectra recorded at 300 K on the other hand featured a strong photoluminescence band around 344 nm, which were assigned to the near band-edge absorption transition of ZnS host lattice, in addition with three weaker bands relating to the absorption transitions of [6A1( 6S) → 4T2( 4D)]: 430 nm, [6A1( 6S) → 4A1( 4G) – 4E(4G)]: 468 nm, and [6A1( 6S) → 4T2( 4G)]: 492 nm of Mn2+(3d5 ) cations. It was shown that the capping affected only the intensities of emissions bands.

We investigate the transient absorption phenomena in synthetic diamonds obtained by High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) methods. The aim of our study is to search inorganic crystalline media combining ionizing radiation and investigate their detecting properties and non-linear absorption of ultra-short laser pulses. The pump-probe technique with 140 fs laser pulses was used for the investigations.

Hydrogels composed of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), polyethylenglycol (PEG) and kappacarrageenan (KC) were prepared by radiation crosslinking method. The equilibrium water absorption of hydrogel PVP/KC (A) and PVP/PEG/KC (B) were 45 and 85 g(H2O)/g dried gel, respectively. The n values of the equation Mt /M = ktn were determined to be of 0.6396 for hiđrogel A and 0.9984 for hydrogel B. The water transport mechanism follows the fickian diffusion for hydrogel A, while relaxation diffusion is dominated for hydrogel B. The water vaporization of hiđrogels was also investigated.
