Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a powerful technique for identifying molecular species, but it has been primarily limited to noble metal supports. This study clarified the SERS mechanism based on semiconductor material - ZnO microtube in probing methylene blue (MB) as an equal contribution of charge transfer and SPR mechanisms.

In this work, Al-doped ZnO and Fe-doped ZnO nanoparticles have been synthesized through the coprecipitationannealing method to create new and safer UV filters for sunscreen. The effects of metal doping on phase composition, crystal structure, surface morphology, specific surface area, and elemental composition were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, field emission electron scanning microscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption experiments and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, respectively.

Ebook "Raman spectroscopy of conformational rearrangements at low temperatures: Folding and stretching of alkanes in supersonic jets" identifies the turning point in chain length, after which alkanes self-solvate into a folded structure instead of an extended stretched conformation. After this turning point, London dispersion forces rearrange isolated n-alkanes into a particular hairpin-structure, while for shorter chain lengths, a simple stretched conformation is energetically preferred.

Gliomas are the most common brain tumours with the high-grade glioblastoma representing the most aggressive and lethal form. Currently, there is a lack of specific glioma biomarkers that would aid tumour subtyping and minimally invasive early diagnosis. Aberrant glycosylation is an important post-translational modification in cancer and is implicated in glioma progression.
