A total of 319 nasal swab samples were collected to clarify the prevalence and antimicrobial susceptibility of E. coli in the respiratory tract of goats in Can Tho, Vietnam. It indicated that E. coli was detected at a relatively minor rate (8.46%), and their prevalence in male goats and dairy goats was higher than that in others.

Phenotypic approach in the treatment of COPD is lacking in general medical facilities, despite the importance of this data. Objectives: The study aimed to identify divergences in features, pharmacologic regimens of COPD by clinical phenotypes in the real-life context of care units in Can Tho City that manage outpatients with chronic respiratory diseases.

Febrile convulsions are a fairly common emergency in children, accounting for up to 2/3 of children with symptomatic convulsions in diseases with identified causes. Febrile seizures are a medical emergency in pediatrics. Seizure recurrence can affect the child in many ways, including the risk of injury, respiratory failure during a seizure, or increased risk of epilepsy.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is an acute infectious disease caused by an intestinal virus with typical clinical manifestations: bullous rash on the hands, feet, buttocks, or mouth ulcers. The disease can spread very quickly from one child to another through two fecaloral and respiratory routes. Hand, foot, and mouth disease is one of the most common acute infectious diseases in Vietnam.

Asthma, a pervasive chronic inflammatory ailment of the respiratory system, remains a global health conundrum. The Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) of 2019 underscores its widespread impact, revealing that asthma afflicts 262 million individuals worldwide, translating into an age-standardized prevalence of 3,416 per 100,000 population.

Bacterial infections have a substantial impact on global health and can become serious if misdiagnosed with several diseases related to the central nervous, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems. The prognosis in patients with infectious disease strongly depends on early diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic therapy. We aimed to compare the accuracy of genus and species-level identification bacteria using biochemical testing and 16S rRNA sequence analysis.

The current study sought to determine: If there is a correlation between conventional measures of lung function such as Forced Expiratory Volume in one second (FEV1) and less conventional measures such as airways expired NO level (eNO), electrodermal measures, TCM enquiry and BHT; If any of the lung function measures are able to distinguish between asthmatic and healthy subjects; If the use of a rye grass extract is better than placebo in improving requirements for bronchodilator medication, peak flow, forced expiratory volume in one second or quality of life in mild to moderate childhood a...

Mitochondrial cytochromecoxidase is a key protonmotive component of the respiratory chain. Mutations in the mito-chondrially-encoded subunits of the complex have been reported in associationwith a range of diseases. In this work we used yeast and bacterial mutants to assess the effect of humanmutations insubunit 1 (L196I) andsubunit 3 (G78S, A200T,DF94–F98, F251L and W249Stop).

Whereas the majority of disease-related mitochondrial DNA mutations exhibit significant biochemical and clinical heterogeneity, mutations within the mitochondrially encoded human cytochrome b gene (MTCYB) are almost exclusively associated with isolated complex III deficiency in muscle and a clinical presentation involving exercise intolerance.

Angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) may play an important role in cardiorenal disease and it has also been implicated as a cellular receptor for the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) virus. The ACE2 active-site model and its crystal structure, which was solved recently, highlighted key differences between ACE2 and its counterpart angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which are responsible for their differing substrate and inhibitor sensitivities.

Aspergillus fumigatusis responsible for many allergic respiratory diseases, the most notable of which )due to its severity)is allergic bronchopulmo-nary aspergillosis. Aspf1 is a major allergen of this fungus: this 149-amino acid protein belongs to the ribotoxin family, whose best characterized member isa-sarcin (EC 3.1.27.10). The proteins of this group are cytotoxic ribonucleases that degrade a unique bond in ribosomal RNA impairing protein biosynthesis.

The mitochondrial cytochromeb missense mutation, G167E, has been reported inapatientwithcardiomyopathy. The residue G167 is located in an extramembranous helix close to the hinge region of the iron–sulfur protein. In order to characterize the effects of the mutation on the structure and function of thebc1complex, we introducedG167E into the highly similar yeast cytochromeb. The mutation had a severe effect on the respiratory function, with the activity of thebc1complex decreased to a fewper cent of the wild type....

Prolidase is a Mn 2+ -dependent dipeptidase that cleaves imidodipeptides containing C-terminal proline or hydroxyproline. In humans, a lack of prolidase activity causes prolidase deficiency, a rare autosomal recessive disease, characterized by a wide range of clinical outcomes, including severe skin lesions, mental retardation, and infections of the respiratory tract.

The glycosyltransferase enzymes (Lgts) responsible for the biosynthesis of the lipooligosaccharide-derived oligosaccharide structures from Moraxella catarrhalishave been investigated. This upper respiratory tract pathogen is responsible for a spectrum of illnesses, including otitis media (middle ear infection) in children, and contributes to exacerbations of chronic obstruct-ive pulmonary disease in elderly patients.

Mucins are large glycoproteins protecting mucosal surfaces throughout the body. Their expressions are tissue-specific, but in disease states such as cys-tic fibrosis, inflammation and cancer, this specificity can be disturbed. MUC5AC is normally expressed in the mucous cells of the epithelia lining the stomach and the trachea, where it constitutes a major component of the gastric and respiratory mucus.

REVIEW ARTICLE Hanna Willander1,2, EriThe BRICHOS domain was initially defined from sequence alignments of the Bri protein associated with familial dementia, chondromodulin associ-ated with chondrosarcoma and surfactant protein C precursor (proSP-C) associated with respiratory distress syndrome and interstitial lung disease (ILD). Today BRICHOS has been found in 12 protein families.
