Salmonella Gallinarum

Thorough postmortem examination of 195 broiler poultry carcasses brought to the Department of Veterinary Pathology; LUVAS was carried out to find out the cause of mortality. Gangrenous dermatitis condition was encountered in 3.58% of broilers of 6- 12 weeks age group. In these cases mixed infection of Staphylococcus aureus (all cases), E. coli (one case) and Salmonella Gallinarum (one case) was found.

A lytic bacteriophage (SGP-1) against Salmonella gallinarum (S. gallinarum) was isolated by an enrichment protocol from the sewage water of a poultry farm. The presence of bacteriophage was observed by spot test over the bacterial lawn and double agar overlay assay. Isolated phage was able to produce clear, circular plaques of 2-3mm diameter on S. gallinarum lawn culture.

The aim of this work was to detect the presence of bacterial species in Yamuna river water from six different sites namely (S1) Mahewa Ghat, (S2) Gau Ghat, (S3) Old Naini Bridge, (S4) New Naini Bridge, (S5) Arail Ghat, (S6) Saraswati Ghat. Total 36 samples of water were used for isolation purpose. Salmonella were detected in 5 samples with highest ranking (13.9%). Salmonella spp. isolates belonged to the species S. typhi (two isolates), S. enterica, S. choleraesuis, S. gallinarum while Vibrio were detected in 4 samples (11.2%). Vibrio spp. isolates belonged to the following species V.

The investigation was aimed at to proximate the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 2-nitropropanol (2-NPOH) for growth inhibition (in-vitro) of Salmonella typhimurium, Shigatoxic Escherichia coli (STEC) and Salmonella gallinarum vis a vis effect of pH of culture medium on function of 2-NPOH and its in-vivo effect on these bacteria in chick model. In in-vitro testing, MIC of 2-NPOH for Salmonella typhimurium was recorded to be 3.5 mM whereas it was 1.5 mM for STEC and Salmonella gallinarum.

Salmonellosis caused by Salmonella spp., a gram negative bacterium, is an important disease of poultry all over the world. Salmonella gallinarum (S. gallinarum) and Salmonella pullorum (S. pullorum) are avian host specific Salmonellae which causes fowl typhoid and pullorum disease in poultry and they are transmitted in between birds by both vertical and horizontal transmission. This article briefly reviews about epidemiology, clinical signs, diagnosis of avian salmonellosis.

Despite Fowl typhoid (FT) eradication in commercial poultry of some parts of the world, outbreak threats are not eliminated in poultry of developing countries. In the current study, we reported molecular identification of Salmonella gallinarum in Indian isolates from backyard poultry by a multiplex PCR assay. Boiled culture lysates of Salmonella Gallinarum isolates (n=2) from an outbreak showed positive amplifications of glgC and speC genes in duplex PCR with 174 bp and 252 bp products, respectively.

Giống Salmonella có khoảng 2300 serotype và thuộc họ Enterobacteriacaea. Salmonella spp. có những đặc điểm sau: Gram âm, hình que, kỵ khí tùy nghi, với đường kính khoảng 0,7-1,5 micromet, dài 2-5 micromet, và roi mà cấp theo mọi hướng.
