The implantation of screws is a standard procedure in musculoskeletal surgery. Heat can induce thermal osteonecrosis, damage the bone and lead to secondary problems like implant loosening and secondary fractures. The aim of this study was to investigate whether screw insertion generates temperatures that can cause osteonecrosis. The screw design (cortical > locking), the site of measurement (trans-cortex > cis-cortex) and the type of screw insertion (hand insertion > machine insertion) have an influence on the increase in bone temperature.

Screw pressing parameters for oil expelling was optimized with dehulled deskinned groundnut and wheat bran (fibre material) at variable sample moisture and press head temperature in two different sets of experiments. Box-Behnken design of response surface methodology was adopted for the study with dehulled deskinned groundnut (80-95g), wheat bran (8-16g) and sample moisture (8-14%, w.b.) while press head temperature ranged between 50-90 oC.

Extrudates were prepared to identify the optimum machine parameters and prepare good quality ready to eat extruded snacks from a suitable blend of sattu and kodo. Kodo is millet that supply starch necessary to provide required puffing quality to extrudate. Kodo also imparts brightness to the extrudate. Sattu has been blended as it is a rich source of protein gram being the main source followed by wheat and barley. It also provides fibres. The experiments were carried out to find out the effect of different levels of processing parameters.

Maize based extruded samples with rice and aonla powder (in the ratio of 80:10:10 respectively) extruded at the optimum conditions of 120 barrel temperature, 350 screw rpm and 20% (d.b) were packed in three different packaging materials (LDPE, Aluminium foil and Aluminum foil pouches with Nitrogen gas) and stored at ambient conditions (25 to 30ºC). It was found that the physical and nutritional changes are very less in aluminum foil with nitrogen gas compared with aluminium foil and LDPE pouch.

The technological conditions of obtaining the polylactic acid-Vietnamese cassava starch blend on the mix-brabender were investigated. The optimal conditions were: temperature 160o C, reaction time 6 minutes, screw speed 45 r/min., initial material ratio in weight percentage PLA80- PEG10-TB20. Polyethyleneglycol (PEG) as a plasticizer, PN-47 as a distribution agent was used. It showed that the optimal starch content was 20 wt%. Increase in starch content lead to increase in water absorbability and weight loss of the materials.
