Voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) is one of the most important basic blocks for analog, digital as well as in mixed signal circuits. This paper presents a new technique to improve the performance of ring oscillators. A VCO with large tuning range and variable duty cycle is designed using 90nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology with supply voltage of 1.8Vp-p.

The objective of this research was to determine the role of neural feedback and muscle mechanics in the generation of physiological tremor oscillation. This research developed a neuromuscular model to simulate the individual and resulting oscillatory mechanisms of tremor. The oscillations found in EMG signal were also analysed empirically from EMG data from 54 subjects using Hilbert Transform and rectification to obtain the envelope of the signal. The time between rhythmical waveform patterns in the EMG signal, TC was found to be 78ms.

The Tibetan highland fish, Gymnocypris przewalskii, migrates from Lake Qinghai to its spawning grounds every summer. This seasonal reproduction is critically regulated by intrinsic and extrinsic signals. However, the molecular mechanisms that process environmental oscillations to initiate the seasonal mating are largely unknown.

Gene circuits are important in many aspects of biology, and perform a wide variety of different functions. For example, some circuits oscillate (e.g. the cell cycle), some are bistable (e.g. as cells differentiate), some respond sharply to environmental signals (e.g. ultrasensitivity), and some pattern multicellular tissues (e.g. Turing’s model).

This paper studies the active damping of the oscillations of lightly damped linear systems whose parameters are indeterminate or may change through time. Systems with an arbitrary number of vibration modes are considered. Systems described by partial differential equations, that yield an infinite number of vibration modes, can also be included. In the case of collocated feedback, i.e. the sensor is placed at the same location of the actuator, a simple fractional order differentiation or integration of the measured signal is proposed that provides an effective control.

This review provides a comparative overview of recent developments in the modelling of cellular calcium oscilla-tions. A large variety of mathematical models have been developed for this wide-spread phenomenon in intra- and intercellular signalling. From these, a general model is extracted that involves six types of concentration variables: inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3), cytoplasmic, endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondrial calcium, the occupied binding sites of calcium buffers, and the fraction of active IP3 receptor calciumrelease channels....

A cascade of events (signal-transduction), mainly seen in rat cardiac myocytes and renal cells, is thought to occur after ouabain interaction with a minor fraction of Na + /K + -ATPase. Ahigher intracellularNa + concentration followed sodium pump inhibition by ouabain with a subsequent gradual increase or oscillations in intracellular Ca 2+ con-centration. Whether this increase in intracellular Ca 2+ concentration is part of the cascade, a result of the cascadeor a totally independent phenomenon are conflicting interpre-tations that are discussed. ...

Previously, we have shown by sensitivity analysis, that the oscillatory behavior of nuclear factor (NF-jB) is coupled to free IkappaB kinase-2 (IKK2) and IkappaBalpha(IjBa), and that the phosphorylation of IjBaby IKK influences the amplitude of NF-jB oscillations.

Src-family kinases (SFKs) play a pivotal role in growth factor signaling, mitosis, cell motility and invasiveness. In their basal state, SFKs maintain a closed autoinhibited conformation, where the Src homology 2 domain inter-acts with an inhibitory phosphotyrosine in the C-terminus.

Biological signaling networks can exhibit rich response dynamics including ultrasensitivity, adaptation to persistent stimuli and oscillations. Previous modeling efforts have considered the proteins in these networks as two-state entities and their total levels as fixed quantities.
