This book provides a clear exposition of the underlying concepts with many worked examples and problem sets. It also discusses implementation, including an introduction to Markov chain Monte-Carlo integration and linear and nonlinear model fitting. Particularly extensive coverage of spectral analysis (detecting and measuring periodic signals) includes a self-contained introduction to Fourier and discrete Fourier methods.

Ebook "Computer-based structure elucidation from spectral data: The art of solving problems" is composed of three parts. Part I contains a concise description of the ACD/Structure Elucidator flow diagram, its knowledgebase, and the fundamental concepts making up the theoretical basis of CASE (Chap. 1). Different strategies regarding the application of the system depending on the specific features of the problem being solved are discussed in Chap. 2.

Acoustic feedback is a major problem in openfit digital hearing aids, which significantly lowers the signal quality and limits the achievable maximum stable gain. Adaptive feedback cancellation (AFC) is a common and efficient approach, however, it introduces a biased estimate of the feedback path due to a high correlation between loudspeaker signal and the incoming signal, especially when the incoming signal is spectrally coloured, e.g., speech, music.

Cancer is a disease characterized by the continuous growth of cells without adherence to the rules that healthy normal cells obey. Carbonic anhydrase I and II (CA I and CA II) inhibitors are used for the treatment of some diseases. The available drugs in the market have limitations or side effects, which bring about the need to develop new drug candidate compound(s) to overcome the problems at issue.

In this paper we consider spectral properties of the operator pencils generated by boundary-value problems for second order elliptic equation depending parameter in a plane angle. We receive explicit formula for the eigenvalues and the eigenvectors of the operator pencil, the multiplicity of the eigenvalues, and the differentiability of the eigenvalues and the eigenvectors with respect to the parameter.

In this paper, we estimate the scale of time consumption of such calculation in comparison to that of time-independent calculation, and present our solution to the problem by using parallel computing as implementing both MPI and OpenMP to the calculation. We also discuss the possibility to exploit parallel computing with GPU in the near future, and the preliminary results of time-dependent spectral function.

Formulae expressing explicitly the q-difference derivatives and the moments of the polynomials Pn(x ; q) ∈ T (T ={Pn(x ; q) ∈ Askey–Wilson polynomials: Al-Salam-Carlitz I, Discrete q-Hermite I, Little (Big) q-Laguerre, Little (Big) q-Jacobi, q-Hahn, Alternative q-Charlier) of any degree and for any order in terms of Pi(x ; q) themselves are proved. We will also provide two other interesting formulae to expand the coefficients of general-order q-difference derivatives Dp q f (x), and for the moments xDp q f (x), of an arbitrary function f(x) in terms of its original expansion coefficients.

Multivariate Curve Resolution with Alternating Least Squares (MCR-ALS) is a curve resolution method based on a bilinear model which assumes that the observed spectra are a linear combination of the spectra of the pure components in the system. The algorithm steps include the determination of the number of components by rank analysis methods, initial estimates for the concentrations and/or spectra and an iterative optimization. Sometimes, suitable results may not be achieved when MCR-ALS is applied. One reason for this is the importance of the initial estimates of the spectral profiles.

In this paper, the Legendre spectral-collocation method was applied to obtain approximate solutions for some types of fractional optimal control problems (FOCPs). The fractional derivative was described in the Caputo sense. Two different approaches were presented, in the first approach, necessary optimality conditions in terms of the associated Hamiltonian were approximated. In the second approach, the state equation was discretized first using the trapezoidal rule for the numerical integration followed by the Rayleigh–Ritz method to evaluate both the state and control variables.

Characterization of special nuclear material may be performed using energy spectroscopy of either the neutron or gamma-ray emissions from the sample. Gamma-ray spectroscopy can be performed relatively easily using high-resolution semiconductors such as high-purity germanium. Neutron spectroscopy, by contrast, is a complex inverse problem. Here, results are presented for 252Cf and PuBe energy spectra unfolded using a single EJ309 organic scintillator; excellent agreement is observed with the reference spectral.

The fundamental frequency of the electric cabinet is sensitive because of many attached devices. To bypass this complex problem, the average spectral acceleration ðSaÞ in the range of period that cover the first mode period is chosen as an intensity measure on the fragility function. The nonlinear time history analyses for cabinet are conducted using a suite of 40 ground motions. The obtained curves with different approaches are compared, and the variability of risk assessment is evaluated for restrained and anchored models.

In this paper we consider the Sturm-Liouville equations on a finite interval which is fractional-linear in the spectral parameter. The inverse spectral problem consisting of the recovering of the operator from the two spectra is investigated and a uniqueness theorem for solution of the inverse problem is proved.

In this work, we develop CASVM and CANN algorithms for semi-supervised classification problem. The algorithms are based on a combination of ensemble clustering and kernel methods. Probabilistic model of classification with use of cluster ensemble is proposed. Within the model, error probability of CANN is studied. Assumptions that make probability of error converge to zero are formulated. The proposed algorithms are experimentally tested on a hyperspectral image. It is shown that CASVM and CANN are more noise resistant than standard SVM and kNN.
