The study "Comparison of the performance of state-controlled and private-controlled enterprises - evidence from the electricity industryin Vietnam" aims toexamine the impact of ownership structure on business performance. The study uses a sample of 51 companies in electricityindustry listed on Vietnam’s stock market in 2017. The author uses multi-linear regression to evaluate the effect of the structure ownership on the performance of enterprises. The study shows that state-controlled enterprises have a lower performance than privatecontrolled firms.

The study is based on a data of 74 listed construction firms in the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange over the period 2014-2018. It is found that listed construction firms in Vietnam have high level of financial leverage and mainly rely on short-term debts.

This emissions paradox is explained by differences in building age, rates of home ownership, and floor area in these communities. In African-American neighborhoods, homes are older, home ownership is lower (reducing the likelihood of energy retrofits), and there is less floor area per person compared to Caucasian neighborhoods. Statistical models suggest that historical housing policies, particularly “redlining”, partially explain these differences.

The research aims at demonstrating the negative relationship between overinvestment and performance. The dataset from Thomson Reuters covers 669 Vietnamese non-financial listed companies from 2013 to 2017. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between ownership and employment growth. With a sample of 5,461 firms and using the Heckman two-stage model (to eliminate selection sample bias), the main findings are follows: Compared to firms with 100% capital ownership, domestic firms with less than 50% state capital, domestic private firms, joint stock firms without state capital, 100% foreign capital firms, and joint venture (non-state and foreign) firms have positively significant impacts on employment growth. A change in ownership is not significant to employment growth.

In this study, we examine how ownership structure affects the use of independent directors in Vietnam – an emerging stock market. With a sample of 1,318 observations collected from 192 listed firms over the period from 2008 to 2017, we find that insider ownership and independent director appointment have a U-shaped relationship. It is positive when insiders hold a small proportion of shares, and turns out to be negative when insiders hold a large percentage of shares.
