The current study investigates the influences of using DP on the engineering properties of the modified SCM with the HVFA based supplementary cementitious binder. Particularly, the effect of slag with higher pozzolanic reactivity partially substituting fly ash on the properties of the modified SCM was preliminarily estimated, which has not been previously explored.

Zeolites, commonly referred to as molecular sieves, are aluminosilicate minerals with an open structure and interconnecting holes that can be explored by molecular, atomic, and ionic components. Zeolites, called pozzolans, are hydrophilic aluminum silicates that contain alkali and alkaline earth elements.

This thesis analyses the Australian resources equity market reaction to the 2010 resource tax announcements. These taxes were explicitly designed to meet tax neutrality conditions. Tax neutrality implies that taxes should not incur substitution effects that result in economic inefficiency. These taxes were intended to generate revenue (i.e., an income effect) while not distorting economic incentives.

Research objectives of the thesis: Clarification influence of the elements Na, Sr and Ba substituting for La/Ca and crystal size on the magnetic properties, phase transition and magnetocaloric effects of La0,7Ca0,3MnO3 materials. Found the materials for significant mmagnetocaloric parameters have potential for applications in magnetic refrigeration.Determine the effect of replacing Sr/Ba for Ca in La0,7Ca0,3MnO3 and Co substituting for Mn in La0,7Sr0,3MnO3 on their critical behavior as well as the ferromagnetic interactions order.

In the current context of eco-pollution, the substitute of conventional plastics with bioplastics is a big confront. On account of that, a non-growth associated PHB production study was conducted using Zobellella species under submerged fermentation process. As a result, Zobellella species showed the ability to accumulate 2.2g/L of PHB at pH 8. 0, temperature 37oC, salt concentration 2% in modified growth medium containing vitamins. Then, primary structural characterization of extracted polymer was conducted by FTIR analysis. The high intense peak was obtained at 1720.

Med. Zentrum fur Hygiene und Medizinische Mikrobiologie, Philipps-Universitat Marburg, Marburg, Germany Mannose analogues (2-deoxy-D -glucose, 2-deoxy-2-fluoroD -glucose and 2-amino-2-deoxy-D -mannose) have been used to study glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPtdIns) biosynthesis and GPtdIns protein anchoring in protozoal and mammalian systems. The effects of these analogues on GPtdIns biosynthesis and GPtdIns-protein anchoring of the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum were evaluated in this study. ...

By replacing specific amino acids at positions 112, 147 and 152 of the human aldosterone synthase (CYP11B2) with the corresponding residues from human, mouse or rat 11b-hydroxylase (CYP11B1), we have been able to investigate whether these residues belong to structural determinants of individual enzymatic activities. When incubated with 11-deoxycorticosterone (DOC), the 11b-hydroxylation activity of the mutants was most effectively increased by combining D147E and I112P (sixfold increase).

Gaegurin 4 (GGN4), a 37-residue antimicrobial peptide, consists of two amphipathic ahelices (residues 2–10and 16–32) connected by a flexible loop region (residues 11– 15). As part of an effort to develop new peptide antibiotics with low molecular mass, the activities of C-terminally truncated GGN4 analogues were tested. D 24)37 GGN4, a peptide analogue with 14 residues truncated from the C-terminus of GGN4, showed a complete loss of anti-microbial activity.

We report the recombinant neurolysin and thimet oligo-peptidase (TOP) hydrolytic activities towards internally quenched fluorescent peptides derived from the peptide Abz-GGFLRRXQ-EDDnp (Abz,ortho-aminobenzoicacid; EDDnp,N-(2,4-dinitrophenyl) ethylenediamine), in which X was substituted by 11 different natural amino acids. Neurolysin hydrolyzed these peptides at R–R or at R–X bonds, and TOP hydrolyzed at R–R or L–R bonds, showing a preference to cleave at three or four amino acids from the C-terminal end. ...

Molecular mechanics calculations on conformers of Ac-HGly-NHMe, Ac-b 2 -HAla-NHMe and Ac-b 3 -HAla-NHMe indicate that low-energy conformations of the b-amino acids backbone, corresponding to gauche rotamers around the Ca–Cbbond, may overlap canonical backbone conformers observed for a-amino acids. Therefore, Sub-stance P (SP) was used as a model peptide to analyse the structural and biological consequences of the substitution of Phe7andPhe8by(R)-b 2 -HPheandofGly9byHGly (R)-b 2 -HAla or (S)-b 3 -HAla....

HIV-1 protease is a pivotal enzyme in the later stages of the viral life cycle which is responsible for the processing and maturation of the virus particle into an infectious virion. As such,HIV-1proteasehasbecomean important target for the treatment ofAIDS, and efficient drugs have beendeveloped. However, negative side effects and fast emerging resistance to the current drugs have necessitated the development of novel chemical entities in order to exploit different phar-macokinetic properties as well as new interaction patterns....

Substitution oftrans-proline at three positions in ubiquitin (residues 19, 37 and 38) produces significant context-dependent effects on protein stability (both stabilizing and destabilizing) that reflect changes to a combination of parameters including backbone flexibility, hydrophobic interactions, solvent accessibility to polar groups and intrinsic backbone conformational preferences. Kinetic analysis of thewild-type yeast protein reveals a predominant fast-folding phase which conforms to an apparent two-state folding model. ...
