Enterobacteriaceae are the most frequently isolated organisms from clinical specimens. Among them Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae cause a wide variety of clinical infections. With the emergence of ESBLs, carbapenems became the drug of choice. During the past decade, there has been an emergence of carbapenems-resistant Enterobacteriaceae that produce carbapenamases.

The present study was carried out to detect bacteria commonly associated in causation of VAP. Also to determine their antibiotic susceptibility patterns as well as to detect the presence of ESBL, AmpC β-lactamases, carbapenemases and MBL in these VAP pathogens.

Pus culture, Sensitivity, Resistance, MRSA, ESBL. The aim of the study was to determine the commonly isolated aerobic microorganisms found in pus samples and their antibiotic sensitivity pattern. This study was conducted in the Government Medical College Hospital, Thoothukudi from January to December 2016. Pus samples received from various departments are processed by standard protocols. Antibiotic susceptibility was done by Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method.

The aim of the study is to isolate the bacteria and fungi causing keratitis in and around the Nellore district and to do antibiotic sensitivity testing especially to identify the MDR strains. Corneal scrapings were collected from 150 patients who attended to the department of Ophthalmology, Narayana Medical College, Nellore during the period February 2016 to December 2016 with corneal ulcers.

Such bacteria are usually susceptible only to polymyxins and tigecycline. NDM-1 was first detected in a Klebsiella pneumoniae isolate from a Swedish patient of Indian origin in 2008. It was later detected in bacteria in India, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Japan (Kumarasamy et al., 2010).

Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is chronic inflammation of middle ear and mastoid cavity with recurrent ear discharge lasting for more than 6months. Studies are mainly done on the bacterial aetiology of CSOM, but very little is known about the fungal aspects of such cases. Otomycosis is increasing in the recent years because of the indiscriminate use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, corticosteroids, and an increase in the number of immune deficiency disorders.

The incidence of AmpC beta-lactamase producing K. pneumoniae has been steadily increasing over past years and is of significant concern as they restrict therapeutic options and cause treatment failure. The objective of the present study was to know the occurrence of AmpC beta-lactamase producing K. pneumoniae and to create a baseline antibiotic resistance data to implement effective antibiotic policy.

Though dengue, chikungunya and typhoid fever have emerged as major public health problems in India, concurrent infection with these diseases is rarely reported. The present study was undertaken with the aim of determining the occurrence of dengue fever in febrile patients and co-infection with chikungunya and typhoid fever in South Indian population. Serum samples from 278 patients were tested during November- December 2017 for various parameters like Dengue IgM, Chikungunya IgM, Dengue IgG and Salmonella IgM by ELISA.

Currency in hospital is commonly contaminated with different pathogenic and potential pathogenic organisms and all people handling currency are invariably exposed to these microorganisms. To find the profile of bacteria on Indian currency and the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of the isolated bacteria. It was a prospective study from September 2014 to February 2015.

Pyogenic infections are one of the most common clinical complications following surgery and trauma. Prompt antimicrobial therapy is needed to reduce the morbidity of these infections. Rationale use of antibiotics is the need of the hour to curb the rising antimicrobial resistance. A retrospective study was undertaken to identify the microbial profile with their antibiogram among the pus culture isolates in a teaching tertiary care hospital from January 2017 to June 2017.504 pus culture samples processed at the microbiology lab were analyzed.

Even though cervical cancer is quite a common cancer in India, there are limited studies on the knowledge and awareness about the disease. It is important to assess the knowledge among the screening populations have about cervical cancer and Human papillomavirus (HPV) and their attitudes toward HPV vaccination, as it will directly influence their decision-making for the acceptability of healthcare programs.

This study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of nasal carriage of Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and its Mupirocin resistance in health care providers (HCPs). Sterile swabs from the anterior nares of the HCPs were collected and then transported to the Microbiology laboratory for processing. The Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus) isolates were tested for Methicillin resistance on Mueller Hinton agar using Cefoxitin disc (30ug) by Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method.

Rabies is the oldest zoonotic disease known to mankind. Most of the human cases reported worldwide are due to dog bite, although few cases may be transmitted by non-bite exposures. Theoretically high-risk exposures include direct contact of broken skin or mucosa with saliva, tears, oropharyngeal secretions and CSF. Hereby we narrate our risk assessment and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for HCWs at our hospital after a case of rabies was detected.

Needle stick injuries (NSIs) are the injuries that are caused by needles, such as hypodermic needles, blood collection needles, intravenous stylets, and needles used to connect parts of intravenous delivery systems. NSIs are very common and in many instances unavoidable among healthcare providers when they are delivering patient care. Around 75% of the NSIs in developing countries are not reported. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and other correlates and attributes of NSIs among healthcare providers in a tertiary care teaching hospital in South India. .

Urinary tract infections (UTI) are the second most common infections encountered in clinical practice and is associated with a high rate of morbidity and economic burden. Knowledge of the local antibiotic resistance patterns will help in providing empirical therapy and helps in prevention of resistance. This was a retrospective study conducted from January 2017 to December 2018 at a medical college in South India. Samples received included mid-stream clean catch urine, Catheterized urine, suprapubic aspirate.
