
Test signals

VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) is a language for describing hardware. Its requirement emerged during the VHSIC development program of the US Department of Defense. The department organized a work shop in 1981 to lay down the specifications of a language which could describe hardware at various levels of abstractions, could generate test signals and record responses, and could act as a medium of information exchange between the chip foundries and the CAD tool operators.

In living organisms, Ca 2+ signalling is central to cell physi-ology. The Ca 2+ chelator 1,2-bis(2-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,N¢,N¢-tetraaceticacid (BAPTA) hasbeenwidelyusedas a probe to test the role of calcium in a large variety of cell functions. Here we show that inmost cell types BAPTAhas a potent actin and microtubule depolymerizing activity and that this activity is completely independent of Ca 2+ chela-tion. Thus, the depolymerizing effect of BAPTA is sharedby a derivative (D-BAPTA) showing a dramatically reduced calcium chelating activity....

Recently, we have shown that phenyl hydroquinone, a hepatic metabolite of the Ames test-negative carcinogen o-phenylphenol, efficiently induced aneuploidy in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We further found that phenyl hydroquinone arrested the cell cycle at G1 and G2 ⁄M. In this study, we demonstrate that phenyl hydroquinone can arrest the cell cycle at the G2 ⁄M transition as a result of stabilization of Swe1 (a Wee1 homolog), probably leading to inactivation of Cdc28 (a Cdk1⁄Cdc2 homolog).

This study tests the purported signal amplification capability of the gluta-mine synthetase (GS) regulatory cascade inEscherichia coli. Intracellular concentrations of the pivotal regulatory protein GlnB were modulated by varying expression of its gene (glnB). This tutorial will guide you through the process of creating a test bench for your VHDL designs, which will aid you in debugging your design before or in addition going to the FPGA for execution. For the sake of simplicity, we will revisit the counter tutorial available at Professor Duckworth’s website: http://ece.wpi.edu/~rjduck/Nexys2%20ISE%2010_1%20Counter%20Tutorial.pdf. We will recreate the sample counter and decoder and then create a VHDL test bench for the counter to show what it looks like in the new Xilinx software.
