  • Odor pollution is especially concerned due to its unpleasant smell, human health impacts and the possibility to be dispersed in a very large area. Odor emission sources from typical industries were introduced. The representative technologies for cleaning odor polluted air stream such as adsorption, absorption, biological treatment, thermal and non-thermal oxidation methods were reviewed in this paper. The advantages and disadvantages of these methods were analyzed and compared.

  • The paper presents the first results of study on isolation of curcumin from curcuma longa L. by ultrasonic extraction. The results show that by using ultrasonic technique the extraction efficiency in comparison with the solid-liquid extraction with stirring and thermal treatment will be increased and in the other hand the extraction time will be reduced nearly 90%. In addition, ultrasonic extraction results in reducing cost and decomposed curcumin significantly due to the thermal treatment.

  • Titanium oxide ST01, ST31, TiO2 catalysts modified by V5+, N2+ and supported on MCM41 and SiO2 have been used for photooxidation of p-xylene in gas phase. Physicochemical properties of catalysts were determined by the methods of BET Adsorption, Xray Diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis spectroscopy, and atom adsorption spectroscopy (AAS) methods. The photocatalytic activity of catalysts were determined after thermal treatment as well as UV lighting. The common observation is that the higher temperature of treatment the lower conversion of p-xylene obtained.

  • Glassware must be scrupulously cleaned. Clean all glassware as soon as possible 3 after use by rinsing with the last solvent used in it. Solvent rinsing should be followed by detergent washing with hot water, and rinses with tap water and distilled water. The glassware should then be drained dry, and heated in a muffle furnace at 400°C for 15-30 minutes. Some thermally stable materials may not be eliminated by this treatment. Solvent rinses with acetone and pesticide quality hexane may be substituted for the muffle furnace heating.
