Three to success

Alkaline pulping liquors are the problematic for environment due to their toxicity and poor biodegradability. During last decade, anaerobic treatment technology has been successfully applied to various types of pulp and paper industry effluents. In the present study, the treatment of highly toxic pulping liquors in lab-scale has been done using sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) isolated from sediment samples of pulp and paper mills in Vietnam. This treatment could reduce 70 - 75% of COD after three weeks. The COD removal could achieve 82 - 88% by subsequent aerobic treatment in 48 hours.

In this thesis, I conducted a case study of three entrepreneurs at different stages that supports the theory that access to capital and strategic decisions affect the success of minority entrepreneurs even if they are not the only factors. This case study provides an in-depth and holistic understanding of issues that plague minority entrepreneurs.

Stress-activated protein kinase (SAPK) signaling plays essential roles in eliciting adequate cellular responses to stresses and proinflammatory cytokines. SAPK pathways are composed of three successive protein kinase reactions. The phosphorylation of SAPK signaling components on Ser/Thr or Thr/Tyr residues suggests the involvement of various protein phosphatases in the negative regulation of these systems.

Aloesone synthase (ALS) and chalcone synthase (CHS) are plant-specific type III poyketide synthases sharing 62% amino acid sequence identity. ALS selects acetyl-CoA as a starter and carries out six successive condensa-tions with malonyl-CoA to produce a heptaketide aloesone, whereas CHS catalyses condensations of 4-coumaroyl-CoA with three malonyl-CoAs to generate chalcone.

Leukocyte rolling is an important step for the successful recruitment of leu-kocytes into tissue and occurs predominantly in inflamed microvessels and in high endothelial venules of secondary lymphoid organs. Leukocyte roll-ing is mediated by a group of C-type lectins, termed selectins. Three differ-ent selectins have been identified – P-, E- and L-selectin – which recognize and bind to crucial carbohydrate determinants on selectin ligands.

Wheat flavoneO-methyltransferase catalyzes three sequential methylations of the flavone tricetin. Like other flavonoidO-methyltransferases, the pro-tein is a homodimer. We demonstrate, using analytical ultracentrifugation, that perchlorate dissociates the dimer into monomers. The resulting mono-mers retain all their catalytic capacity, including the ability to catalyze the three successive methylations.

Poincar´ made the first attempt in 1896 on applying variational calculus e to the three-body problem and observed that collision orbits do not necessarily have higher values of action than classical solutions. Little progress had been made on resolving this difficulty until a recent breakthrough by Chenciner and Montgomery. Afterward, variational methods were successfully applied to the N -body problem to construct new classes of solutions.

The study to assess the effect of high temperature on masculinisation of GIFT strain of tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, was carried out at the Experimental Farm of Fisheries Faculty, Nong Lam University from March to July in 2007. It comprised two experiments, which were a completely randomized design with three replicates.
