At initial decades of 21st century, one probability of a great famine appeared in the world due to long drought in tropics and subtropics and at the same time it appeared more dangerously because of the climate change threat. System of Wheat Intensification (SWI) which is somewhat based on the fundamental principles of System of Rice Intensification (SRI) is a new wheat cultivation technique which might act as a significantly new weapon as a part of climate-smart farming.

The ScB, RS and WS agro-wastes substrates were selected as the most favorable lignocellulosic sources. P. cystidiosus can efficiently degrade the agro-wastes and grow at wide range of temperatures.

This biomass can be easily densified in the form of pellets and briquettes. The present study was undertaken to estimate the availability of biomass for major agricultural crops and to work out its energy potential. Based on the area under cultivation and production for the years 2000-01 and 2011-12, ten major agricultural crops of Haryana were selected i.e. rice, jowar, bajra, maize, cotton, sugarcane, wheat, barley, gram, and rapeseed and mustard.

Conventionally, wheat straw based synthetic compost is used for its production. Use of paddy straw as such tends to make the composting process anaerobic leading to low quality compost and low yields. In the present study, an alternative high yielding compost formulation based on paddy straw + maize stalks as a substitute to the existing wheat straw based compost has been made.
