Chronic lymphoid leukemia (CLL) is the most prevalent form of leukemia in western countries. It occurs most frequently in older adults and is exceedingly rare in children. In 2007, 15,340 new cases were diagnosed in the United States, but because of the prolonged survival associated with this disorder, the total prevalence is many times higher. CLL is more common in men than in women and more common in whites than in blacks.

  • The typical amount remitted per transaction by international migrants ranges from US$100 to US$1,000 (Sander and Maimbo 2003, 16). According to the World Bank (2004), the global average transaction value is US$200. Migrants make significant sacrifices to send an average of US$200 eight or more times per year to their home country. Several studies indicate that permanent migrants send about 15 per cent of their salary home, whereas temporary migrants may remit up to 50 per cent of their income (USAID 2002, quoted in Sander 2003a, 8).

  • Portuguese migrants in Europe send remittances to their home from a small number of sending countries. France has been the most important source country since the 1960s, and more recently, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States have also become significant source countries (Karafolas, 1998). According to figures from the Banco de Portugal, 42 per cent of remittances came from France, 18 per cent from Switzerland and 15 per cent from the United States. Transfers of remittances are primarily performed by Portuguese banks with their branches abroad.

It is very important to understand how to efficiently trade with another country and to maintain consistency. However, such a consistency is not possible in the case of economics. Therefore, using an efficiency measure helps us to explore and benchmark a country’s exportation businesses. The main goal of this study is to develop an integrated data envelopment analysis (DEA) model to explore the most productive manner through which Vietnam exports goods to other countries.
