Peroxiredoxins are abundant cellular antioxidant proteins that help to con-trol intracellular peroxide levels. These proteins may also function, in part, through an evolved sensitivity of some peroxiredoxins towards peroxide-mediated inactivation in hydrogen peroxide signaling in eukaryotes.
