UNIT 11: BOOKS D: WRITING I. AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON 1. Language focus - To develop their writing skills about how to report a book - To provide students with some more new words and phrases 2. Skills: To help Ss develop their writing skills to describe a table 3. Attitudes: - To encourage Ss work in pairs and groups II. PREPARATION 1. Teacher: - Teaching aids: Lesson plan, text book - Teaching method: Communicative language teaching 2. Students: Read Unit 11 – writing at home III. PROCEDURE 1. Class organization (1 minute) 2. Check – up (5 minutes) - Some students summarize the listening passage - Some students write new words 3. New lesson (35 minutes) STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES 1. Task 1 Task 1 - Read out the information, check understanding - Instructs Ss how to do task 1 - Work in groups, put the questions in appropriate headings + General introduction 1. What’s the title of the book? 2. Who is the author? 3. What type of book is it? 4. Where is the book - Asks some groups to present set? their ideas + Summary of the book’s content 1. What’s the plot of the story? 2. What’s the main theme of the story? 3. Who are main characters? + Conclusion 1. What’s your opinion about the book? 2. Would you recommend the book? 2. Task 2 + Task 3 Task 2 + Task 3 - Choose one book to make report - Asks different groups give their - Each groups talk then write for one part of the report parts I’ve read a lot of books but the book I like most is “Robinson Crusoe in Wild Island” by Daniel Defoe. It’s a very fascination novel The novel is about the life and struggle of a man when he lives alone in a wild island. The main character of the novel is Robinson who luckily survives after a ship sink in the - Asks some Ss to link different ocean. After some days floating in the water, he reaches a wild parts to make a complete writing island where there’s not a sign of humans. Robinson was very optimistic, brave and clever to find the way how to survive alone in the island. He was also very patient. After 10 years of living alone in the wild island, Robinson could return the land and meet his family again. I would recommend the book to everyone who loves adventures
and doesn’t mind facing difficulties. 4. Consolidation (3 minutes) - How to report a book - Words and phrases 5. Homework (1 minute) - Complete the report
