UNIT 13: THE 22nd SEA GAMES A: READING I. AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON 1. Language focus: To provide students with some new words and expressions 2. Skills: To develop their reading skills: skimming for general ideas. 3. Attitudes: To encourage Ss work in pairs and groups II. PREPARATION 1. Teacher: - Teaching aids: Lesson plan, text book, new words - Teaching method: Communicative language teaching 2. Students: - Read Unit 13– reading at home III. PROCEDURE 1. Class organization (1 minute) 2. Check – up (5 minutes) - Revise elision - Distinguish transitive and intransitive 3. New lesson (35 minutes) STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES 1. Before you read Before you read - Read out the words and phrases then check their - Instructs Ss to read the words and meanings phrases in the glossary - Work in pairs, look at the picture, ask and answer the questions + The picture show the 22nd SEA Games which were held - Introduces some new words and in Vietnam in 2003 phrases - Pay attention to new words and phrases 2. While you read While you read - Listen to the tape and read the passage for the first time - Plays the tape, asks Ss to listen to the Task 1 tape while reading - Work individually skim the passage, finish task 1 then compare the answer with their partners: 1.
