Anthracnose of mango
-
Anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz. is the major problem of harvested mango for domestic markets and for export. Control of anthracnose disease is currently based on the application of fungicides. However, it was reported that there are some chemical residues of chemical in mango and in the environment.

Anthracnose is the most prevalent and devastating fungal disease both before and after harvesting of mango worldwide. The anthracnose pathogen infects fruit in the field and remains quiescent until the fruit is harvested and starts to ripen. This is the major constraint in the commercialization of fresh mango.

Mango is regarded as „king of fruits‟ and is grown mainly in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Anthracnose is one of the devastating disease, known to cause yield loss from 10 to 80 per cent in orchard and also being post-harvest disease, it cause an economical loss to the tune of 15-20 per cent. The disease is caused by the fungal pathogen Colletotrichum gloeosprorioides.

The aim of this study was to evaluate different inoculation methods for disease development in mango. For this rationale the present investigation was carried out under laboratory conditions during, 2016 at CCS, HAU, Hisar. The variation in different inoculation method for mango anthracnose development was tested by spray, pinprick and dipping inoculation method.

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is one of the best fruit in the world market affected by two fungal diseases, powdery mildew and anthracnose causing up to 90 per cent crop loss. Hence, an investigation was initiated to study the bio-efficacy of different standard and new fungicides against powdery mildew and anthracnose disease.

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is considered as one of the most popular fruits among millions of people in the tropical and sub-tropical area and increasingly in the developed countries. Anthracnose, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, is the most important pre and post-harvest disease of mango.

Mango anthracnose disease is one of the major fungal diseases of mango. In the present investigation, the rate of growth of Anthracnose (C. gloeosporides) has been compared in various temperature and culture solid media types viz., simple PDA (Potato Dextrose Agar), Oatmeal agar, Nutrient agar, Mango leaf extract agar, Czapek Dox agar.

Anthracnose disease of mango causes by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz and Sacc. is one of the most devastating pathogen in mango, which behaves differently to varied host crops in their symptom development, severity and adaptability. So, an in vivo study was conducted to know reaction of some fruits crop and weeds to C. gloeosporioides.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of aqueous extract and dry extracts of 12 different plant species against C. gloeosporioides the causal agent of mango anthracnose under natural disease epidemics. Significant difference was observed among the extracts in their effect on suppressing the mycelial growth of the pathogen under in vitro conditions. None of the extracts were able to completely prevent the development of the pathogen. However, most of the extracts significantly reduced disease development over the control. Among the fresh plant extracts, at 7.

Neglected mango orchards with high canopy, low yields, heavy infection by anthracnose and fruit flies were popular in Yen chau district. Low yield and erratic fruit bearing were common for the orchards. It was also difficult to take care of them.
