This research aims to enhance comprehension of legal texts by applying Talmy's (2017) threestep process for identifying and integrating referents from contextual cues into linguistic forms. Drawing on pragmatics, discourse analysis, cognitive semantics, and Talmy's force dynamics notion, a qualitative content analysis investigates the cognitive processes readers use for cue detection, attention allocation, and semantic integration when reading court indictments.

In this study, we synthesized hydroxyapatite (HA) on polyvinyl alcohol/TiO2 (PVA/TiO2) in which TiO2 was prepared by the sol-gel method. HA was formed by immersing the membrane in the simulated body fluid (SBF) solution. We improved the mechanical strength of the membranes by adding glutaraldehyde (GA) combining with heat treatment to cross-link the polymer network.

In addition, we also show that our present solutions are valid for the problems of indentation by a rigid punch on an elastic half-space through a proper replacement of the contact radius and the corresponding material constant. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the accuracy, applicability, and versatility of the developed solutions.

The aim of this research is to explore the application of natural biopolymer chitosan for the purpose of incorporating fragrance oil into automotive fabrics and its antimicrobial properties relevant to automotive interior textiles. Chitosan was selected for this study for its film forming ability and inherent antimicrobial attributes. 100% polyester automotive fabrics were used in this study, as 100% polyester is predominant fibre used for automotive interior textiles.

The aim of this thesis was to investigate and characterise the effect on electron dosimetry that localising different forms of bolus, both approximately tissue equivalent and non tissue equivalent, in a non conventional, although reproducible locations, (ie not on the phantom surface). This search resulted in the development of a practical software tool based on animated Venn diagrams (Dvenn) that attempted to exploit the inherent human ability to perceive quantities visually, a faculty described herein as visual numeracy. The exploitation of this faculty is considered here to be a valuable aid for group understanding of business presentation data. The development of the tool was an essential part of the research that was undertaken and the resulting software forms a significant portion of this practise based research.

The objective of this project was to develop \(Ti{O_2}\) based multifunctional substrates through silver decoration, while simultaneously enhancing the photocatalytic performance of \(Ti{O_2}\) in the substrate. Employing Ag nanoparticles introduced additional functionality to the system, namely surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), thus enabling the detection of trace amounts of organic molecules prior to their degradation, all with the same substrate.

Once the mechanical properties of printed TPU are characterised, a novel, low cost, and environmentally friendly method for concrete casting using printed TPU moulds is proposed in this thesis. Additively manufactured TPU mould is developed to cast complex concrete structures. A planar topologically optimized cantilever and a free-form 3D column are cast using the proposed TPU mould. Good surface quality is obtained for the cast concrete elements, and the moulds can be reused many times after cleaning.
