This thesis is a detailed case study of implementation of an e-government initiative in Thailand-e-Revenue (the oniine tax payment system)-which is the country's most successful e-government process. This research used a single case study approach which allowed the researcher to examine the phenomenon in depth and to provide extensive understanding and explanation. The need to implement a national policy, the National IT Policy, was found to be the most critical factor in the successful implementation of the e-Revenue project.

This project approaches capacity building by focusing on practices described in the literature that foster the development of capacity building. This approach adopts systems theory to understand how change matter more systematic and identifiestwo components: the first, four levels of capacity, and the second, six essential criteria that enable the development of capacity building.

Doctoral thesis of Philosophy: Healthcare information systems assimilation: the Malaysian experience
This research is qualitative, adopting an exemplar single case study approach with more than one unit of analysis embedded within the case. This research also takes an interpretivist view with the aim of developing concepts, confirming or refuting theory, drawing from specific implications and the contribution of rich insights. A public hospital in Malaysia currently operating with an end-to-end hospital IS/IT was selected as the case to explore the key elements that contribute to the success of assimilating HIS.

The world is becoming increasingly focused on an imperative to reduce the cost of services. Managers at this cutting edge of practical organizational development are trying many ways to achieve this. The major focus of this research uses a systems psychodynamic approach to investigate the role taken up by part-time contract managers in an Australian university. These part-time roles frequently fail in the longer term. This approach provides an understanding of the unconscious group dynamics that may cause the role to fail.

This research demonstrates how housing demand can be modelled by using a System Dynamics approach. This modelling concept has been set up, using the root causes which generate housing demand. Causal factors which influence housing demand are collated, and mapped. A model simulating housing demand was developed. Keys to this are demographic, social and economic factors. This model is presented with a view to pursuing new approaches for housing demand modelling.

Modelling the diffusion of mobile commerce in a country is a difficult task due to the non-linear, complex and uncertain nature of its operating environment. Conventional analytical techniques are of limited use in this context, and a System Dynamics approach is more appropriate to model such a complex system.

This research aims to develop novel approaches capable for effectively solving the IS project evaluation and selection problem in a simple and straightforward manner. More specifically, this research will: (a) Conduct a comprehensive review of existing approaches to evaluating and selecting IS projects; (b) Develop novel approaches for evaluating and selecting IS projects; and (c) Demonstrate the applicability of the developments in real IS project evaluation and selection situations with real world applications.

Development of anthelmintic resistance has made it essential to develop alternative ways of worm control in animals. One of the most promising approaches is to treat only those animals which require attention in terms of worm management. “FAMACHA” method has facilitated quick identification of Haemaonchus contortus infected sheep and goats without the aid of any laboratory procedures and delivers the treatment only to those who require it.

Over several years, we have developed an approach to spoken dialogue systems that includes rule-based and trainable dialogue managers, spoken language understanding and generation modules, and a comprehensive dialogue system architecture. We present a Reinforcement Learning-based dialogue system that goes beyond standard rule-based models and computes on-line decisions of the best dialogue moves. The key concept of this work is that we bridge the gap between manually written dialog models (e.g.

The development of targeted probes (based on the molecular engineering of luminescent or fluorescent proteins) has allowed the specific measure-ment of [Ca 2+ ] in intracellular organelles or cytoplasmic subdomains. This approach gave novel information on different aspects of cellular Ca 2+ homeostasis. Regarding mitochondria, it was possible to demonstrate that, upon physiological stimulation of cells, Ca 2+ is rapidly accumulated in the matrix.

Amyloid-b(Ab) aggregation and amyloid formation are key pathological features of Alzheimer’s disease, and are considered to be two of the major contributing factors to neurodegeneration and dementia. Identification of small molecule inhibitors that are orally available, have low toxicity and high central nervous system bioavailability is one approach to the potential development of a disease-modifying treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.
