The objective of research "Identification of SNP markers linked to Rf locus in carrot using GBS" was to identify SNP markers linked to Rf locus and develop a genetic map of Rf gene in carrot. For this purpose, a carrot F2 population segregating for male sterility was produced and segregating 10,425 SNP markers were discovered by using genotyping by sequencing (GBS).

Although black cultivars of carrots (Daucus carota L.) can accumulate large quantities of anthocyanin in their storage roots, the regulatory genes responsible for their biosynthesis are not well characterized. The current study aimed to analyze global transcription profiles based on RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq), and mine MYB, bHLH and WD40 genes that may function as positive or negative regulators in the carrot anthocyanin biosynthesis pathways.

Characterization and identification of Alternaria spp. causing foliar blight and black rot in carrot
Carrot (Daucus carota L.) of plant family Apiaceae is a most popular and commonly used vegetable worldwide because of its multiple uses. This crop suffers greatly due to a number of diseases from seedling to maturity stage in which the diseases caused by Alternaria spp. are one of them. Two types of diseases occur in serious farm on this carrot crop, one is the Alternaria leaf (foliar) blight caused by Alternaria dauci and the other one, Alternaria black rot in which two species, Alternaria radicina and A. carotiincultae are involved in the causation of this disease.

Under this study, botanicals, plant volatiles, organic acids, organic salts and essential oils were used against E. carotovora subsp. carotovora under in vitro. Based on antibacterial efficacy, curative application was formulated against decay in carrot by dipping under laboratory conditions. Out of these all treatments, EC formulated consortia (cinnamon + lemongrass + thyme) oils at 0.1% given the better results against disease reduction (98.0%), weight loss (3.0%), and preserve the edible nature.

Twenty five genotypes of carrot were evaluated for different traits in a randomized complete block design with two replications. The variation was observed for all the parameters studied. Root weight, root/top length ratio, total yield/plot, total yield/ha, cortex thickness, TSS, β-carotene content, ascorbic acid content, total phenol, protein, root forking and root splitting showed high genotypic coefficient of variation and phenotypic coefficient of variation.

In this work, studied the effect of different concentrations of osmotic agents i.e. salt solutions (5%, 8%, 11% concentration) and sugar solutions (55oBrix, 60oBrix, 65oBrix concentration) on microwave drying and various physical parameters of carrot slices. Overall analysis of the physical parameters of the dehydrated carrot slices indicated that the sugar solution is superior to that of salt solution. In initial analysis, if fresh carrot slices, the colour was reddish and moisture content was observed very high.

Twenty five carrot genotypes were evaluated for different parameters in a randomized complete block design with two replications. Correlation analysis revealed that total yield/ha exhibited positive significant association with plant height at 60 DAS, plant height at harvest, leaf length, petiole length, root weight, core diameter, core thickness and cortex thickness, while negative significant association was found with root/top length ratio at both genotypic and phenotypic level.
