Given the acknowledged problems in sepsis diagnosis, we use a novel way with the application of the latent class analysis (LCA) to determine the operative characteristics of C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer (DD) and Procalcitonin (PCT) as diagnostic tests for sepsis in patients admitted to hospital care with a presumptive infection.

In this study, the DNA fragment encoding for the C-terminus domain of the AopB from Aeromonas hydrophila AH-1 was cloned into pET-M expression vector and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) host cells. The recombinant AopB-C-terminus domain was successfully purified using immobilized nickel affinity chromatography as a soluble form. Crosslinking analysis among AopB-C-terminus molecules in solution showed that this domain existed as a mixture of tetramer, trimer, dimer, and monomer forms.

The viral RNA dependent RNA polymerase (L protein) binds to a promoter on each encapsidated segment, and transcribes the mRNA. The virus attaches to host receptors though Gn-Gc glycoprotein dimer, and is endocytosed into vesicles in the host cell. Transcription is terminated by a strong hairpin sequence at the end of each gene, and the transcripts are capped by L protein during synthesis using cap snatching process in the cytoplasm.

Design of multivalent ligand is significant in restraining the interaction involved in the binding of influenza virus to its host cell. This molecular dynamics (MD) simulation study aims to study the mode of binding of dimeric NeuNAc analogues coupled by different nano-spacers into the multimeric binding sites of neuraminidase and haemagglutinin of influenza A H5N1 virus. In total, 80 NeuNAc analogue dimers were modeled and docked against the binding sites of neuraminidase and haemagglutinin.

Porcine heart cytoplasmic malate dehydrogenase (s-MDH) is a dimeric protein (2 · 35 kDa). We have studied equilibrium unfolding and refolding of s-MDH using activity assay, fluorescence, far-UV and near-UV circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, hydrophobic probe-1-anilino8-napthalene sulfonic acid binding, dynamic light scattering, and chromatographic (HPLC) techniques. The unfolding and refolding transitions are reversible and show the presence of two equilibrium intermediate states.

The insect ecdysteroid receptor consists of a heterodimer between EcR and the RXR-orthologue, USP. We addressed the question of whether this heterodimer, like all other RXR heterodimers, may be formed in the absence of ligand and whether ligand promotes dimerization. We found that C-terminal protein fragments that comprised the ligand binding, but not the DNA binding domain of EcR and USP and which were equipped with the activation or DNA binding region of GAL4, respectively, exhibit a weak ability to interact spontaneously with each other.
