  • Ebook "State-to-state dynamical research in the F+H2 reaction system" addresses two important and also challenging issues in the research of chemical reaction dynamics of F+H2 system. One is to probe the reaction resonance and the other is to determine the extent of the breakdown of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation (BOA) experimentally. The author introduces a state-of-the-art crossed molecular beam-scattering apparatus using a hydrogen atom Rydberg "tagging" time-of-flight method, and presents thorough state-to-state experimental studies to address the above issues.

  • Imbalanced application of inorganic fertilizer generates undesirable over soil physicochemical properties to a great extent. Short term aerobic incubation experiment was implemented with soil samples (Typic Haplustert) collected from top soil horizon (0-15cm) of cabbage field in Viraliyur, Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. Intention of study is towards examining the pattern of changes in pH and electrical conductivity (EC) in soil added with varied levels of fertilizers (NPK) under field capacity condition. Fertilizer was applied in accordance with the treatments viz.

  • Experimental aspect of the corrosion inhibition potential of adenine (AD), guanine (GU) and, hypoxanthine (HYP) was carried out using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods while the theoretical aspect of the work was carried out by calculations of semi-empirical parameters (for AM1, MNDO, CNDO, PM3 and RM1 Hamiltonians), Fukui functions and inhibitor–metal interaction energies.

  • Grafting acrylic acid (AA) onto linear, low density polyethylene (LLDPE) is carried out in melt state in the presence of styren (St). The effects of reaction time and temperature; concentrations of initiator and St; mixing speed of LLDPE and chemicals on the grafting degree of AA onto LLDPE is estimated. St is added to try to decrease the extent of crosslinking reaction and to increase the grafting degree of AA on to LLDPE. The obtained results show that the suitable conditions for the mentioned process above are 2 wt% of AA; 0.3 wt% of DCP; molar ratio of St/AA of 2.

  • Biosynthesis ofmucin-typeO-glycans is initiated by a family of UDP-GalNAc:polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyl-transferases, which contain several conserved cysteine resi-dues among the isozymes. We found that a cysteine-specific reagent, p-chloromercuriphenylsulfonic acid (PCMPS), irreversibly inhibited one of the isozymes (GalNAc-T1). Presence of either UDP-GalNAc or UDP during PCMPS treatment protected GalNAc-T1 from inactivation, to the same extent.

  • To investigate how solubility and steric issues affect the laccase-catalysedoxidationof phenols, a series of oligomeric polyphenol compounds, having increasing size and decreasing solubility in water, was incubated with laccase. The extent of substrate conversion, and the nature of the products formed in buffered aqueous solutions, were com-pared to those obtained in the presence of an organic cosolvent, and also in the presence of twomediating species, i.e. N-hydroxyphthalimide (HPI) and 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidin-1-yloxy (TEMPO). ...

  • Investigations of protein–solute interactions typically show that osmolytes favor native conformations. In this study, the effects of representative compatible and counteracting osmolytes on the reactivationof lactate dehydrogenase from two different conformational states were explored. Contrary to expectations, proline and trimethylamine oxide inhibited both the initial time course and the extent of reactivation of lactate dehydrogenase from bovine heart following dena-turation in guanidine hydrochloride, as well as following inactivation at pH 2.3.

  • We used two inhibitors of the signaling enzyme phosphatidylinositol 3-kin-ase (PtdIns3K), wortmannin and LY294002, to evaluate the potential involvement of PtdIns3K in the activation of the MAP kinases (MAPK), Erk1 and Erk2. In dose–response studies carried out on six different cell lines and a primary cell culture, we analyzed the ability of the inhibitors to block phosphorylation of protein kinase B⁄akt (PKB⁄akt) at Ser473 as a measure of PtdIns3K activity, or the phosphorylation of Erk1⁄2 at activa-ting Thr⁄Tyr sites as a measure of the extent of activation of MAPK⁄Erk kinase (MEK⁄Erk).

  • The interplay among reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, elevated intracellular calcium concentration and mitochondrial demise is a recurring theme in research focusing on brain pathology, both for acute and chronic neurodegenerative states. However, causality, extent of contribution or the sequence of these events prior to cell death is not yet firmly established.

  • Oligomeric assemblies of amyloid-b(Ab) are suggested to be central in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease because levels of soluble Abcorrelate much better with the extent of cognitive dysfunctions than do senile plaque counts. Moreover, such Abspecies have been shown to be neurotoxic, to interfere with learned behavior and to inhibit the maintenance of hippo-campal long-term potentiation.

  • Many of the techniques that have been developed have already been used to study the extent and distribution of variation in species gene-pools and to investigate evolutionary and taxonomic relationships among plant populations. With the development of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based techniques, in particular, numerous molecular technologies have been, and still are being, developed, which can be used for the detection, characterization, and evaluation of genetic diversity in plant populations.
