  • In ebook "Polymer reinforcement" we consider this class of polymeric materials but do not consider polymers filled with liquids (e.g., water) and polymeric foams. Filling or reinforcement of polymers to enhance some properties of the material is one of the most important and popular methods of production of plastics, rubbers, coatings, adhesives, etc., which must possess the necessary mechanical and physical properties for any given practical application.

  • In this paper, an approach is proposed and presented to tackle the vibro-acoustic properties of finite clamped composite sandwich plates with foam core. Composite sandwich plates are treated as being orthotropic and the apparent bending stiffnesses are calculated for the two principal directions.

  • Due to rapid industrialization and modernization, a large number of both fly ash (FA) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), both by-products from thermal power plants and steel factories, are increasing day by day. Thus, recycling these industrial wastes to produce lightweight foamed concrete (LFC) was investigated in this study.

  • Polyurethane foams have good shock-absorbing properties. This article discusses the study of the physical, dynamic analysis, and microstructure of filled polyurethane foams (PUR). We used mineral fillings nanoparticles of titanium dioxide (TiO2 ) and calcium carbonate (C1) to support and strengthen the foam cell structure to develop shock absorption and thermal resistance properties. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and compression tests compared the mechanic characterization results with different modelling approaches.

  • Oromucosal administration is an attractive non-invasive route. However, drug absorption is challenged by salivary flow and the mucosa being a significant permeability barrier. The aim of this study was to design and investigate a multi-layered nanofiber-on-foam-on-film (NFF) drug delivery system with unique properties and based on polysaccharides combined as i) mucoadhesive chitosan-based nanofibers, ii) a peptide loaded hydroxypropyl methylcellulose foam, and iii) a saliva-repelling backing film based on ethylcellulose.

  • This study aims to use FA and GGBFS to replace 50% cement in the production of LFC. Various PP fiber contents were also incorporated to enhance the mechanical strength of LFC. Then, the influence of PP fiber content on the engineering properties of LFC was investigated in terms of fresh unit weight (UW), dry density, water absorption, thermal conductivity, flexural strength, compressive strength, and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV).

  • The present paper develops a polynomial chaos expansion (PCE)-based surrogate model for characterizing the microstructure-properties relationships of acoustic monodisperse foams. First, the acoustic properties of the considered structures are estimated numerically by homogenization techniques using an idealized periodic unit cell and the Johnson-Champoux-Allard-Pride-Lafarge (JCAPL) model.

  • This study presents the synthesis of glucose-based surfactants including quaternary ammonium salts. Their surface properties and influence on the soil environment were investigated. The synthesized quaternary ammonium chlorides of glucose-based ester exhibited good surface tension reduction properties and formed stable foam in contact with water. The results showed that quaternary ester ammonium salts affect the activation of metals (nickel and cadmium) from the soil matrix after their introduction into the soil environment. This phenomenon can increase the bioavailability of these metals.
