  • The research project deals with two different types of data for two separate analysis. The first analysis deals with normalised RNA-seq breast cancer data where machine learning techniques are used to classify and identify the biomarker of cancer. Second analysis deals with raw DNA methylated leukemia samples to determine the mutations.

  • According to the ASEAN Consumer Survey conducted by HKTDC Research, ASEAN consumers, including those in Thailand, are willing to spend more on better quality products and have a strong sense of personal style. For international brands, Thailand is a key market among the developing Asian countries, not only because of its growing demand from the emerging middle-income class, but also the country’s flourishing tourism sector. Also, Thailand is a South East Asian country with close proximity to Vietnam.

  • Cycads occur in lowland forests and are threatened by their degradation, fragmentation and over-exploitation. Our results indicate that cycad population sizes were very small (less 100 individuals) with high propagules. These increased mating between closely related individuals growing in clumps. The allozyme data show although all studied cycads maintained high levels of genetic diversity, an average of 0.556 (0.491 in C. hoabinhensis to 0.598 in C. chevalieri ), the degree of inbreeding was high.

  • (BQ) This paper reports an intelligent approach for process modeling and optimization of electric discharge machining (EDM). Physics based process modeling using finite element method (FEM) has been integrated with the soft computing techniques like artificial neural networks (ANN) and genetic algorithm (GA) to improve prediction accuracy of the model with less dependency on the experimental data.

  • The human b-globin gene locus is the subject of intense study, and over the past two decades a wealth of information has accumulated on how tissue-specific and stage-specific expression of its genes is achieved. The data are extensive and it would be difficult, if not impossible, to formulate a comprehensive model integrating every aspect of what is currently known. In this review, we introduce the fundamental characteristics of globin locus regulation as well as questions on which much of the current research is predicated.

  • The design of b-glycosidases with planed substrate specificity for biotechnological application has received little attention. This is mostly a consequence of the lack of data on the molecular basis of the b-glycosidase specificity, namely data on the energy of the noncovalent interactions in the enzymetransition state complex. In an attempt to fill this gap, sitedirected mutagenesis and enzyme steady-state kinetic experiments with different substrates were conducted, using as model a digestive b-glycosidase (glycoside hydrolase family 1) from Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera) (Sfbgly50).

  • The case of homologous monomeric c-type and oligomeric b-type crystallins has been described and analyzed in evolutionary terms. Data and hypotheses from molecular genetics and structural investigations converge and suggest a novel three-phase model for the evolutionary history of crystallin-type proteins. In the divergent cascades of monomeric and oligomeric crystallins, a pivotal role was played by alterations in the gene segments encoding the C-terminal extensions and the intermotif or interdomain linker peptides.

  • Murine double minute 2 (MDM2) protein exhibits many diverse biochemi-cal functions on the tumour suppressor protein p53, including transcrip-tional suppression and E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. However, more recent data have shown that MDM2 can exhibit ATP-dependent molecular chap-erone activity and directly mediate folding of the p53 tetramer. Analysing the ATP-dependent function of MDM2 will provide novel insights into the evolution and function of the protein.

  • The multisubstrate deoxyribonucleoside kinase ofDroso-phila melanogaster (Dm-dNK) is sequence-related to three human deoxyribonucleoside kinases and to herpes simplex virus type-1 thymidine kinase. Dm-dNK phos-phorylates both purine and pyrimidine deoxyribonucleo-sides and nucleoside analogues although it has a preference for pyrimidine nucleosides. We performed site-directed mutagenesis on residues that, based on structural data, are involved in substrate recognition.

  • The Ca 2+ -induced transition in the troponin complex (Tn) regulates vertebrate striated muscle contraction. Tn was reconstituted with recombinant forms of troponin I (TnI) containing a single intrinsic 5-hydroxytryptophan (5HW). Fluorescence analysis of these mutants of TnI demonstrate that the regions in TnI that respond to Ca 2+ binding to the regulatoryN-domain of TnC are the inhibitoryregion (residues 96–116) and a neighboring region that includes position 121.

  • With the amount of genetic information available, a lot of attention has focused on systems biology, in particular biomolecular interactions. Con-sidering the huge number of such interactions, and their often weak and transient nature, conventional experimental methods such as X-ray crystal-lography and NMR spectroscopy are not sufficient to gain structural insight into these. A wealth of biochemical and⁄or biophysical data can, however, readily be obtained for biomolecular complexes.
