  • In this thesis, the rolling contact wear of 52100 bearing steel and Over-aged Magnesia-Partially-Stabilised Zirconia (OA-Mg-PSZ) ceramic are examined using a newly developed rolling contact wear test rig. The new wear test rig simulates the system geometry of an un-lubricated hybrid (ceramic and steel) ball bearing. The new wear test rig is versatile in that it allows low cost samples to be utilised resulting in a larger number of samples that can be tested.

  • Work experience is a key factor in hiring decision of managers. However, empirical evidence that early life experience matters is very limited. This thesis fills in the gap by examining how work experience affects managerial performance and managerial style in mutual funds. Using a sample of Chinese fund managers, we find performances and styles vary across managers of different career backgrounds. Notably, managers of research and especially government backgrounds show higher risk adjusted returns while taking on less systematic risk.

Therefore, the thesis only focuses on cash dividend policy of the firms. Specifically, the thesis studies the dividend payment policy of 460 firms listed on HSX and HNX between 2010 and 2016. The data is collected from 2009 to 2017. The data needed for research is extracted from the Datastream database. The final sample includes 2,653 firmyear observations.

  • The findings in the dissertation support the conclusion that the fundamental phases proposed by the St. Gallen succession model are suited as a basic structure in a company transfer. Nonetheless, the possible solutions in the principal-agent theory appear to be appropriate as support for the succession process. In addition, it is possible to identify other process-supporting measures, which can be considered from the perspective of the transferring party and the acquiring party. In a consolidated form, these measures result in a model of company succession.
