The pancreas, an important organ of endocrine research is a digestive gland with both exocrine and endocrine functions. The pancreas for this study was collected from different age groups of large white Yorkshire and desi pigs. The morphometrical parameters such as weight of pancreas, length and width of each lobe and histometrical parameters such as number of islets per lobule, length and width of islets were recorded. The pancreas of pigs consisted of splenic, duodenal and connecting lobes. The mean weight of the pancreas was gradually increased as age advanced.

The study was to assess the effect of feeding Japan hlo (Mikania micrantha Kunth.) in ‘meal form’ (JLM) as protein substitute on haemato-biochemical profiles of growing LWY pigs. Sixteen weaned LWY pigs were assigned four dietary treatments with JLM at 0%, 5%, 10% and 15% level as substitute of soyabean meal (SBM) at an amount on equivalent protein basis for a period of 75 days. A study was conducted on the lingual tonsil of six adult male crossbred goats and Large White Yorkshire pigs. The lingual tonsil could not be identified macroscopically but in histological sections aggregations of lymphocytes were seen within the core of mechanical conical papillae in pigs and vallate papillae in goats. The stratified squamous surface epithelium of lingual tonsil was keratinized in goats while non-keratinized in pigs.

The pancreas is a unique and composite digestive gland consisting of exocrine part of acini and endocrine part of islets of Langerhans. The pancreas were collected from five age groups viz., four, six, eight, ten months and adult in large white Yorkshire and also from adult desi pigs. Histochemical study revealed that the duct epithelium showed strong PAS reaction and weak reaction to acid mucopolysaccharides. Numerous tyrosine and lysine containing proteins were observed in the pancreatic parenchyma.

The laboratory examination of semen quality parameters is an indirect way of assessing male fertility. The objective of this research was to study the semen quality parameters of Large White Yorkshire (LWY) boar ejaculates, which had the minimum sperm progressive motility necessary for being selected for further processing. The study made comparative assessment of dry vs. liquid feeding on growth, nutrient digestibility and economics of grower-finisher LWY pigs.
