When mentioning teaching and learning English at all levels of education in countries where English is classified as English as a Foreign Language, four principal skills – listening, speaking, reading, and writing – have been widely researched. Listening has long been recognized as a challenging skill for teachers, students, and researchers in non-English native language contexts.

The study "A genre analysis of abstracts of MA theses in English Linguistics" explores to what extent the Vietnamese learners of English as a foreign language (EFL) apply the knowledge that they have formally learned in the Writing and the Doing scientific research courses to writing their MA graduation theses; the focus is on the abstract. From the perspective of genre analysis, this study aims to describe the structural features of this genre. Data for the investigation is 30 abstracts bounded in the master theses written in English by Vietnamese learners.

This paper focuses on the investigation of the differences in multiple intelligences, learning styles, motivation and language learning strategies used by a successful and an unsuccessful foreign language learner. The study finds that the successful language learner has verbal/linguistic, intrapersonal and interpersonal intelligences while the unsuccessful one owns naturalistic intelligence. The study indicates that the successful learner was intrinsically motivated and the unsuccessful one studied English as foreign language to pass examination.
