This article investigated the impacts of mind mapping on the vocabulary development of fifthgraders at Tran Quoc Toan Primary School. The present study utilized a quasi-experimental design: pretest, posttest control group design. Participants were 68 students divided into two groups: the experimental group (Class 5/4) and the control group (Class 5/2).

Sorghum bicolor is most important cereal crops around the world where the availability of water is less. Study of genetic variability among the sorghum accessions will enable accurate results in breeding programme and in mapping studies. By using SSR markers evenly distributed on sorghum genome revealed that, all the 20 accessions originated from Marathwada (Maharashtra) region were grouped into three main classes and it show correlation with the biological status and other characteristics features of accessions.

A study was undertaken to evaluate eight soil series belonging to Kabirabad 2 microwatershed in Bidar district in Northern Eastern Transition Zone of Karnataka State for sustainable land use planning. Seven soil series were tentatively identified and mapped into eight mapping units using GIS technique. These mapping units were grouped into land capability class II and VI with limitations of erosion, drainage and physico-chemical properties.

We prove that in the pure mapping class group of the 3-punctured projective plane equipped with the word metric induced by certain generating set, the ratio of the number of pseudo-Anosov elements to the number of all elements in a ball centered at the identity tends to one, as the radius of the ball tends to infinity.

We give an elementary proof of a relation, first discovered in its full generality by Korkmaz, in the mapping class group of a closed orientable surface. Our proof uses only the well-known relations between Dehn twists.

We give a complete description of conjugacy classes of finite subgroups of the mapping class group of the sphere with r marked points. As a corollary we obtain a description of conjugacy classes of maximal finite subgroups of the hyperelliptic mapping class group. In particular, we prove that, for a fixed genus g, there are at most five such classes.

S. Bigelow proved that the braid groups are linear. That is, there is a faithful representation of the braid group into the general linear group of some field. Using this, we deduce from previously known results that the mapping class group of a sphere with punctures and hyperelliptic mapping class groups are linear. In particular, the mapping class group of a closed orientable surface of genus 2 is linear.

We compute the growth series and the growth functions of reducible and pseudo-Anosov elements of the pure mapping class group of the sphere with four holes with respect to a certain generating set. We prove that the ratio of the number of pseudo-Anosov elements to that of all elements in a ball with center at the identity tends to one as the radius of the ball tends to infinity.

In this paper, we prove that each injective simplicial map of the arc complex of a compact, connected, orientable surface with nonempty boundary is induced by a homeomorphism of the surface.

This paper describes automatic techniques for mapping 9611 entries in a database of English verbs to WordNet senses. The verbs were initially grouped into 491 classes based on syntactic features. Mapping these verbs into WordNet senses provides a resource that supports disambiguation in multilingual applications such as machine translation and cross-language information retrieval.

We study the large scale geometry of the mapping class group, MCG(S). Our main result is that for any asymptotic cone of MCG(S), the maximal dimension of locally compact subsets coincides with the maximal rank of free abelian subgroups of MCG(S). An application is a proof of Brock-Farb’s Rank Conjecture which asserts that MCG(S) has quasi-flats of dimension N if and only if it has a rank N free abelian subgroup. (Hamenstadt has also given a proof of this conjecture, using different methods.

We prove that the sequence of projective quantum SU(n) representations of the mapping class group of a closed oriented surface, obtained from the projective flat SU(n)-Verlinde bundles over Teichm¨ller space, is asymptotically u faithful. That is, the intersection over all levels of the kernels of these representations is trivial, whenever the genus is at least 3. For the genus 2 case, this intersection is exactly the order 2 subgroup, generated by the hyper-elliptic involution, in the case of even degree and n = 2. Otherwise the intersection is also trivial in the genus 2 case. ...
