The objective of this thesis was to investigate the development of a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) which can be implanted in the eye to provide continuous monitoring of glaucoma conditions. Current glaucoma monitoring involves taking laboratory based intra ocular pressure (IOP) measurements. The measurement of intraocular fluid flow and IOP parameters related to blockage formation in the eye require to be continuously monitored in Glaucoma.

The main focus of this thesis is on the application of a model predictive control (MPC) method to devise an ABS for a BBW vehicle. Unlike the traditional ABS control algorithms which are based on a trial and error method, the MPC based ABS algorithm aims to utilizes the behaviour of the model to optimize the wheel slip dynamics subject to system constraints. Performance of the proposed wheel slip controller is validated through Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) and Hardware-inthe-Loop (HiL) simulation.

Two major areas of the scorecard development process were identified as having much capacity for improving credit scoring models. These are the application of 1) better classifiers and 2) variable selection techniques. However, the application of an artificial immune system for developing scorecards as well as the use of other variable selection techniques, other than stepwise regression, in credit scoring are quite limited as indicated by the scarcity of published materials in these two areas in the current literature.

This paper explains a statistical method that measures the reliability rate of each part in the system as well as the entire supply chain. Moreover, the paper elucidates a mathematical model that improves the reliability of the supply chain through minimization of cost components.

Systems biology and its usage of mathematical modeling to analyse biologi-cal data is rapidly becoming an established approach to biology. A crucial advantage of this approach is that more information can be extracted from observations of intricate dynamics, which allows nontrivial complex expla-nations to be evaluated and compared.

Experimental design has a long tradition in statistics, engineering and life sciences, dating back to the beginning of the last century when optimal designs for industrial and agricultural trials were considered. In cell biol-ogy, the use of mathematical modeling approaches raises new demands on experimental planning.

The phosphotransferase system inEscherichia coliis a transport and sen-sory system and, in this function, is one of the key players of catabolite repression. Mathematical modelling of signal transduction and gene expres-sion of the enzymes involved in the transport of carbohydrates is a promis-ing approach in biotechnology, as it offers the possibility to achieve higher production rates of desired components.

Dedicated to the memory of Gert Kjærg˚ Pedersen ard Abstract In the process of developing the theory of free probability and free entropy, Voiculescu introduced in 1991 a random matrix model for a free semicircular system. Since then, random matrices have played a key role in von Neumann algebra theory (cf. [V8], [V9]). The main result of this paper is the follow(n) (n) ing extension of Voiculescu’s random matrix result: Let (X1 , . . . , Xr ) be a system of r stochastically independent n × n Gaussian self-adjoint random matrices as in Voiculescu’s random matrix paper...

This paper deals with some questions about the dynamics of diffeomorphisms of R2 . A “model family” which has played a significant historical role in dynamical systems and served as a focus for a great deal of research is the family introduced by H´non, which may be written as e fa,b (x, y) = (a − by − x2 , x) b = 0.
