  • This paper aims to provide information about the fractions of cadmium (Cd) and its distribution in surface sediment collected from bivalves harvesting areas in Binh Thuan province (Tuy Phong, Phan Thiet, Lagi). For this purpose, the sediment samples were collected monthly along with these areas in 2015–2016. To analyze the fractions of Cd, a five-step Tessier (1979) sequential extraction process was used, including Fraction 1 (Exchangeable), Fraction 2 (Bound to carbonate), Fraction 3 (Bound to iron-manganese oxide), Fraction 4 (Bound to organic compounds), and Fraction 5 (Residual).

  • A simple and environment-friendly electrochemical method using activated glassy carbon electrodes (aGCE) for monitoring the residues of tetracycline in pork samples was developed. A two-step pretreatment procedure was established for activating the glassy carbon electrode surface, including mechanical polishing and electrochemical pretreatment. In the supporting electrolyte solution of 0.2 M sodium sulfate (at pH 2.5), the electrochemical response of TC was characterized by two irreversible oxidation peaks at +0.95 V and +1.05 V vs. saturated calomel electrode. • In this study, we introduce a simple three-step workflow for a universally applicable RI system, to be used in GC×GC analysis of ignitable liquid residue (ILR) for arson investigations. The proposed RI system applies a combination of two well-established GC RI systems: non-isothermal Kovats (K) index in the first dimension and Lee (L) index in the second dimension.

  • Transverse acetabular fractures, although classified as elementary, have worse outcomes than other types of acetabular fractures. Prognostic factors for this fracture type are not clearly established. This study aimed to assess the surgical outcomes of transverse acetabular fractures and subtypes thereof and to investigate the prognostic factors.

  • A 55-year-old woman presented with a 3-year history of gradually progressive postprandial epigastric fullness. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a large, broad-based mass in the medial wall of the duodenal bulb (Figure 1). Endoscopic ultrasound showed a large, hyperechoic lesion originating from the submucosal layer of the duodenal wall consistent with a lipoma, and computed tomography of the abdomen with contrast suggested the presence of a homogeneous mass with uniform fat density in the duodenal bulb (Figure 2).

  • This study attempts to quantify the shocks to a banking network and analyze the transfer of shocks through the network. We consider two sources of shocks: external shocks due to market and macroeconomic factors which impact the entire banking system, and idiosyncratic shocks due to failure of a single bank. The external shocks we considered in this study are due to exchange rate shocks. An ARMA/GARCH model is used to extract i.i.d. residuals for this purpose.

  • Ecdysteroids are hormones with an important role in the molting, reproduction and immunological defense of arthropods. Ecdysone Receptor (EcR) is a protein that belongs to the superfamily of nuclear receptors, widely studied for pesticide discovery. Currently, several non-steroidal molecules, belonging to the chemical group of diacilhydrazines (DAH), are commercially available for pest control. Such molecules are specific for lepidopteran or coleopteran pests. Hemipterans are important pests in most crops and many cases of pesticide resistance are reported.

  • With the rapid development of nanotechnology, the bio-barcode assay (BCA), as a new diagnostic tool, has been gradually applied to the detection of protein and nucleic acid targets and small-molecule compounds. BCA has the advantages of high sensitivity, short detection time, simple operation, low cost, good repeatability and good linear relationship between detection results. However, bio-barcode technology is not yet fully formed as a complete detection system, and the detection process in all aspects and stages is unstable.

  • This reutilization option is a potential candidate technique to make better use of the nuclear resources. Standard two step method is used to calculate node i.e. fuel assembly average burnup and then pin by pin h values are reconstructed to ascertain the residual reactivity in the used fuel pins. Fuel pins with h >1:0 are used to reconstruct to-be-reused fuel assemblies.

  • A single step test card for field screening of pesticide residues in vegetables based on simultaneous inhibition and reaction of cholinesterase was previously proposed. Here, favorable conditions to immobilize cholinesterase on filter paper for bulk production of this test card were developed. An amount of 28 mL of 6 U/mL cholinesterase solution was sprayed onto a filter paper sheet (210 mm × 297 mm) with speed of 1.5 mL/s.

  • One-electron oxidation of six different c-type lysozymes from hen egg white, turkey egg white, human milk, horse milk, camel stomach and tortoise was studied by gamma-and pulse-radiolysis.In the first step, one tryptophan side chain is oxidized to indolyl free radical, which is produced quantitatively. As shown already, the indolyl radical subse-quently oxidizes a tyrosine side chain to the phenoxy radical in an intramolecular reaction. However this reaction is not total and its stoichiometry depends on the protein.Rate constants also vary between proteins, from 120Æs )1 to 1000Æs )1 at pH 7.

  • Methionine adenosyltransferase (MAT, EC 2.5.1.6)-medi-ated synthesis ofS-adenosylmethionine (AdoMet) is a two-step process consistingof the formation of AdoMet and the subsequent cleavage of the tripolyphosphate (PPPi )mole-cule, a reaction induced, in turn, by AdoMet. The fact that the two activities, AdoMet synthesis and tripolyphosphate hydrolysis, can be measured separately is particularly useful when the site-directed mutagenesis approach is used to determine the functional role of the amino acid residues involved in each....

  • UDP-N-acetylglucosamineenolpyruvyl transferase (MurA), catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of peptidoglycan, involving the transfer of the intactenolpyruvyl moiety from phosphoenolpyruvate to the 3¢-hydroxyl group of UDP-N-acetylglucosamine (UDPNAG). The enzyme is irreversibly inhibited by the antibiotic fosfomycin. The inactivation is caused by alkylation of a highly conserved cysteine residue (C115) that participates in the binding of phos-phoenolpyruvate.

The synthesis of 4¢-phosphopantothenoylcysteine is cata-lyzedby theC-terminal CoaBdomainofDfp andoccurs via the acyl-cytidylate intermediate 4¢-phosphopantothenoyl-CMP in two half reactions. ...
