Leishmania parasites express various essential proteins in different growth phases (logarithmic/ stationary) and forms (promastigote/amastigote). Targeting the genes encoding such proteins paves the way for controlling these parasites. Centrin is an essential gene, which its protein product seems to be vital for the proliferation of Leishmania parasites.

In natural environments, bacteria must frequently cope with extremely scarce nutrients. Most studies focus on bacterial growth in nutrient replete conditions, while less is known about the stationary phase. Here, we are interested in global gene expression throughout all growth phases, including the adjustment to deep stationary phase.

Actinoplanes sp. SE50/110 is the natural producer of the diabetes mellitus drug acarbose, which is highly produced during the growth phase and ceases during the stationary phase. In previous works, the growthdependency of acarbose formation was assumed to be caused by a decreasing transcription of the acarbose biosynthesis genes during transition and stationary growth phase.

The heat shock response of E.coli K12 cells in the presence or absence of oxygen in an exponential or stationary phase of growth and on the oxidative stress response of this bacterium in the absence of oxygen. Winter et al., (2005) studies shown that the oxygen tension with the heat shock response.

Morphological transformation of pathogenic fungi is an important factor contributing in pathogenicity. Sporothrix schenckii is a dimorphic fungus, capable of transforming from filamentous form to yeast form in presence of nutritional factors and environmental conditions. This is very much essential for identification to establish definitive diagnosis of sporotrichosis in-vitro. A six times repeated successive subculture of a standard filamentous S.

In vitro culture systems were used to assess the growth inhibition of kinetoplastids by a variety of aminoglycosides. The parasites were allowed to grow to the stationary phase in the presence of varying concentrations of the drugs. The IC-50 for every drug was calculated by comparison with the control.

An extracellular lipase, LipA, extracted fromAcinetobacter sp. RAG-1 grown on hexadecane was purified and proper-ties of the enzyme investigated. The enzyme is released into the growth medium during the transition to stationary phase. The lipase was harvested from cells grown to sta-tionary phase, and purified with 22% yield and 10-fold purification. The protein demonstrates little affinity for anionexchange resins, withcontaminatingproteins removed by passing crude supernatants over a Mono Q column....

To assess the expression and physiological role of the mitochondrial NAD + -independent lactate dehydrogenase (iLDH) inEuglena gracilis, cells were grown with different carbon sources, and theD-andL-iLDHactivities and several key metabolic intermediates were examined. iLDH activity was significant throughout the growth period, increasing by three- to fourfold from latency to the stationary phase. Intracellular levels ofD-andL-lactate were high (5–40 mM) fromthe start of the culture and increased (20–80 mM)when the stationaryphasewas entered....

Synechocystissp. PCC 6803 exhibits light-activated heterotrophic growth (LAHG) under dark conditions with glucose as a carbon source. The light activation is remarkable at a late period of photoautotrophic preculture, such as the late-linear and stationary growth phases.
