In this book you will find the basics of probability theory and statistics. In addition, there are several topics that go somewhat beyond the basics but that ought to be present in an introductory course: simulation, the Poisson process, the law of large numbers, and the central limit theorem. Computers have brought many changes in statistics. In particular, the bootstrap has earned its place. It provides the possibility to derive confidence intervals and perform tests of hypotheses where traditional (normal approximation or large sample) methods are inappropriate.

This book is an introductory textbook in probability and statistical inference. No prior knowledge of either probability or statistics is required, although prior exposure to an elementary precalculus course would prove beneficial in the sense that the student would not see the basic concepts discussed here for the first time. The material discussed in this book is enough for a one-year course in introductory probability and statistical inference. It consists of a total of 15 chapters.

This study conducted confidence interval estimation to assess variation in the fat content of hamburger samples from a restaurant, using Minitab. The standard for mean fat content was set at 15 grams as per accepted regulatory requirements, with a standard deviation of 1 gram. In this study twenty samples were selected at random and statistical process control was determined by the individual moving range (I-MR) test. The I-MR chart conducted on twenty individual hamburger samples showed that the fat content was in statistical process control.

In this paper, we present some research results on randomness tests based on the length of runs proposed by A. Doğanaksoy et al in 2015. First, we show that some probability values for tests based on lengths 1 and 2 are inaccurate and suggest editing. Secondly, we have given and demonstrated for the general case the runs of any length k. Finally, we built a randomness testing tool and applied evaluations to true random sources.

Gene set testing, or pathway analysis, is a bioinformatics technique that performs statistical testing on biologically meaningful sets of genomic variables. Although originally developed for supervised analyses, i.e., to test the association between gene sets and an outcome variable, gene set testing also has important unsupervised applications, e.g., p-value weighting.

The spatial Principal Component Analysis (sPCA, Jombart (Heredity 101:92-103, 2008) is designed to investigate non-random spatial distributions of genetic variation. Unfortunately, the associated tests used for assessing the existence of spatial patterns (global and local test; (Heredity 101:92-103, 2008) lack statistical power and may fail to reveal existing spatial patterns.

Sprinkler irrigation is still in its infancy in India and there is a need to make it popular among the farmers. Even though there is a phenomenal growth in the area under sprinkler irrigation, a lot of work is still to be done to explain and convince the farmers, especially those in the dry land area about the high potentialities of this new system. The present study was conducted in Rakia block of Kandhamal district in Odisha, which was selected purposively. The data were collected through pre-tested schedule for 120 respondents selected randomly.

The present study was conducted in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh. In present study, multi stage sampling technique was used for drawing the sample. Khargone block in Khargone district was selected purposively due to large area under chilli cultivation. From Khargone block 10 villages were selected randomly. From these villages 90 farmers were selected randomly using proportional allocation i.e. small farmer (4 ha.). The primary data was collected from selected respondents using pre-tested questionnaire, through survey method.

The present study “Regional Study on Behavioural Tendency in Adolescents: Assessment and Analysis of Personal and Socio-Economic Environment” was undertaken with the specific objectives viz (i) to analyse the personal and socio-economic profile of adolescents, (ii) to identify the factors influencing adolescents’ aggression. The data was collected from Hisar District of Haryana. A total sample of 250 adolescents’ in the age group of 13-15 years was randomly selected. Aggression scale developed by Mathur and Bhatnagar (2012) was used to study the aggressive behaviour.
