This study primarily concentrates on the metaphors used in economic reports. Its aim is to have an insight into how metaphors are correlated to human physical experience and constructed in economic reports. In addition, the analysis of this correlation will set foundation for later categorization of the source domains which are exploited in the metaphors in these economic reports.

This paper describes the one-dimensional, transient heat conduction in a rectangular piece of Pyinkado (Xylia xylocarpa) with cross grain and in an orthotropic wooden cylinder. Computerized solutions of a generalized, nonlinear heat equation are derived by discretizing the time domain using finite element techniques.

This thesis proposes a new method to determine moving objects by applying some motion estimation techniques in the video compression domain. At the same time, this method will also be used to build an application that supports the identification and search of motion in home surveillance videos. The compression format of the videos in the thesis uses H264 compression (MPEG-4 part10), a popular video compression standard today.

Chimeric calcium/calmodulin dependent protein kinase (CCaMK) is characterized by the presence of a visinin-like Ca 2+ -binding domain unlike other known calmodulin-dependent kinases. Ca 2+ -Binding to the visinin-like domain leads to autophosphorylation and changes in the affinity for calmodulin [Sathyanarayanan P.V., Cremo C.R. & Poovaiah B.W. (2000)J. Biol. Chem. 275, 30417–30422]. Here, we report that the Ca 2+ -stimulated autophosphory-lation of CCaMK results in time-dependent loss of enzyme activity. ...

There is much evidence to indicate that cholesterol forms lateral membranemicrodomains (rafts), and to suggest their important role in cellular signaling. However, no probe has been produced to analyze cholesterol behavior, especially cholesterol movement in rafts, in real time. To obtain a potent tool for analyzing cholesterol dynamics in rafts, we prepared and characterized several truncated fragments of h-toxin (perfringolysin O), a cholesterol-binding cytolysin, whose chemicallymodified formhas been recently shown to bind selectively to rafts. ...

Cys34 in domain I of the three-domain serum protein albumin is the bind-ing site for a wide variety of biologically and clinically important small molecules, provides antioxidant activity, and constitutes the largest portion of free thiol in blood. Analysis of X-ray structures of albumin reveals that the loop containing Tyr84 occurs in multiple conformations. In structures where the loop is well defined, there appears to be an H-bond between the OH of Tyr84 and the sulfur of Cys34.

DISCRETE-SIGNAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN- P37:Electronic circuit analysis and design projects often involve time-domain and frequency-domain characteristics that are difÞcult to work with using the traditional and laborious mathematical pencil-and-paper methods of former eras. This is especially true of certain nonlinear circuits and sys- tems that engineering students and experimenters may not yet be com- fortable with.
