Traffic flow

This paper explores the benefits and functionalities of turbo roundabouts, drawing on existing global research. It then compares them to traditional two-lane roundabouts using traffic simulation software to evaluate their traffic flow capacity.

The riding attitude of motorcyclists is an important key in the investigation and analysis of motorcyclists' behaviors in traffic flow. In this research, an algorithm has been developed to predict traffic density on the delayed Lighthill - Whitham - Richards (LWR) model, in which a regularization difference method has been proposed as the basis for the algorithm. This article mainly focus on building an algorithm and performing experimental calculations to verify the correctness of the algorithm on a mathematical model.

This paper discusses the results of experiments we have conducted to determine relationship between roads in a neighbouring area and to determine input factors for our neural network traffic flow prediction model. To choose a particular road as a predicting factor, we calculated the distance between roads in neighbouring area to identify the nearest road.

In this paper, use the classical model of Congestion Charging to study the issues of pricingcharges in Ho Chi Minh City. In order to capture the traffic flow, we adopt the Drake speed - density model, which relies on the relationship of speed, density and flow and is further conducted by monitoring the traffic flow. After collecting the base traffic data of Ho Chi Minh City, we analyzed the relationship among speed, density and flow.

In this project, traffic simulation according to the cellular automaton of the Nagel-Schreckenberg model (1992) with different boundary conditions. The sudden occurrence of traffic jams is successfully realised as well as boundary induced phases and phase transitions are observed in the Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process. The extension to the Velocity Dependent Randomization model leads to metastabile high flow states and hysteresis of the flow. The impact of speed limits on the probability of the formation of traffic jams is investigated.

The modelling of traffic flow using methods and models from physics has a long history. In recent years especially cellular automata models have allowed for large-scale simulations of large traffic networks faster than real time. On the other hand, these systems are interesting for physicists since they allow to observe genuine nonequilibrium effects. Here the current status of cellular automata models for traffic flow is reviewed with special emphasis on nonequilibrium effects (e.g. phase transitions) induced by on- and off-ramps.

I present the investigation involving two extensions of the cellular automaton based NagelSchreckenberg model, the Velocity-Dependent-Randomisation (VDR) model, and the two-lane model for symmetric and asymmetric lane changing rule sets. The study of the VDR model outlines a potential method in extending the lifetime of a metastable state and consequently postponing an inevitable traffic jam by orders of magnitude. The two lane model produces a so called "critical" and "sub-critical" flow which combined cause the collapse of flow at a critical density.
