The amount of functional genomic information has been growing rapidly but remains largely unused in genomic selection. Genomic prediction and estimation using haplotypes in genome regions with functional elements such as all genes of the genome can be an approach to integrate functional and structural genomic information for genomic selection.

Longitudinal data and repeated measurements in epigenome-wide association studies (EWAS) provide a rich resource for understanding epigenetics. We summarize 7 analytical approaches to the GAW20 data sets that addressed challenges and potential applications of phenotypic and epigenetic data.

It becomes clear that the increase in the density of marker panels and even the use of sequence data didn’t result in any meaningful increase in the accuracy of genomic selection (GS) using either regression (RM) or variance component (VC) approaches. This is in part due to the limitations of current methods.

RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) technology has identified multiple differentially expressed (DE) genes associated to complex disease, however, these genes only explain a modest part of variance. Omnigenic model assumes that disease may be driven by genes with indirect relevance to disease and be propagated by functional pathways.

Associations between haplotypes and quantitative traits provide valuable information about the genetic basis of complex human diseases. Haplotypes also provide an effective way to deal with untyped SNPs. Two major challenges arise in haplotype-based association analysis of family data.

Multivariate techniques were used to evaluate the relationships among measured parameters. Results showed that the 1st three principal components consisting of soil-types, soil-metal(loids) and soil-pH explained 83% of total variance of both grain-As and Cd accumulation.

The present investigation was carried out at Genetic Resources Department-Bahtim, to evaluate eight faba bean varieties in diallel crosses set. Twenty-eight crosses were constituted in the 2011/2012 season, whereas parents and crosses were evaluated in 2012/2013, in a randomized complete block design with three replications.

Fish communities are important indicators of the health of riverine ecosystems. Fish monitoring for The Living Murray (TLM) initiative, one of Australia’s most ambitious restoration undertakings for the degraded river-floodplain biota of the River Murray system (south-eastern Australia), was carried out annually from 2005 to 2011 across six ‘Icon Sites’, including the habitats and reaches therein. These spatial and temporal components of variation in fish community abundance and composition must be taken explicitly into account for consistent assessment of riverine ecosystem health.

This paper includes the morphological and anatomical characters of the nutlets of 7 endemic species of the subsection Fragiles of the genus Stachys (Lamiaceae) from Turkey and the systematic significance of these characteristics, using one-way analysis of variance and cluster and principal component analyses. Morphological characters such as the dimensions, shapes, colors, and surfaces of the nutlets were studied using light and scanning electron microscopes.

Outdoor regional concentrations of airborne fungal spores and fungal fragments were measured using the 7-day Lanzoni sampler. The daily and intradiurnal fluctuations recorded during the monitored period have been studied. The multiple regression analysis was performed in order to determine how much of the total variance in these concentrations could be explained by meteorological parameters. Daytime periodicity (statistically significant) was established only in a few cases. As the relative importance of the weather factors varied, they could not be ranked according to their effect.

In this study we hypothesize that variants in some functional classes, such as splice site regions, coding regions, DNA methylated regions and long noncoding RNA will explain more variance in complex traits than others. Two variance component approaches were used to test this hypothesis – the first determines if variants in a functional class capture a greater proportion of the variance, than expected by chance, the second uses the proportion of variance explained when variants in all annotations are fitted simultaneously.

Despite the health concerns and nutritional importance of fatty acids, there is a relative paucity of studies in the literature that report genetic or genomic parameters, especially in the case of sheep populations. To investigate the genetic architecture of fatty acid composition of sheep, we conducted genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and estimated genomic heritabilities for fatty acid profile in Longissimus dorsi muscle of 216 male sheep.

After the extensive implementation of genomic selection (GS), the choice of the statistical model and data used to estimate variance components (VCs) remains unclear. A primary concern is that VCs estimated from a traditional pedigree-based animal model (P-AM) will be biased due to ignoring the impact of GS.

Genetic connectedness is a critical component of genetic evaluation as it assesses the comparability of predicted genetic values across units. Genetic connectedness also plays an essential role in quantifying the linkage between reference and validation sets in whole-genome prediction.

In the present study, PCA performed for phenological and yield component traits revealed that out of sixteen, only four principal components (PCs) exhibited more than 1.00 eigen value, and showed about 74.79 % total variability among the traits studied under stress condition while under normal condition out of sixteen, only five principal components (PCs) exhibited more than 1.00 eigen value and showed about 77.84% variability among the traits studied.

The genetic variance of any morphometric or quantitative trait is indicated additive variance (heritable) and non-additive variance and comprise dominance and epistasis (non-allelic interaction) altered by environmental conditions (Iqbal et al., 2014; Kumar et al., 2017; Spaldon and Kumar, 2017).
