Women leadership
-
Gender issues and gender inequality still exist in many countries, especially in remote and poor rural areas. Rural women often suffer from economic disadvantages, low self-confidence in the family and community, and limited access to health, social services, and extension services, which leads to lesser decisionmaking roles in the production and business of households and in leadership at work.

This research found that local government, especially in remote and disadvantaged areas is the face of all government in the eyes of the residents. State and Federal Governments have high expectations and compliance regimes, but local government has limited capacity and resources to effectively meet these legitimate demands and also respond to the demands of the local residents and citizens. The lack of financial resources is exacerbated by limited human resource capacity, especially in the Glenelg Shire, the 5th worst local government area in the state in terms of education and occupation.

The paper reflects upon the seeming organizational silence within the maritime industry concerning women as minority organizational members. The research suggests the necessity of leader/captain acknowledgement of organizational cultural issues emphasizing gender. Such an acknowledgement could be looked upon as positive means of recruiting and retaining women as ship operational personnel.

This paper is a review of leadership research, focusing primarily on women as leaders. The more recent perspective of studying leaders by examining followers is included; but research is sparse as to how leaders are perceived as empowering by their subordinates. A study in progress, conducted by Sakhi Social Enterprise Network (SSEN) Latur indicates that stereotypes were more typically held by women against female leaders. However, a leader's ability to be empowering varies with status. The higher the status, the more empowering that individual is perceived, whether female or male.

Forging a new city vision and infrastructure through civic leadership and collective action Creating sustainable places will require the public, private and voluntary sectors to collaborate effectively. Reliance on the market to deliver essentials, even banking or housing, has evident shortcomings. What is needed is a new market model which endures over the long term because it delivers sustained value. Running a town or city depends upon engaging the whole community.

The societal and political transformations taking place across the region played an instrumental role in challenging stereotypes about Arab women as oppressed and subservient. In particular, the leading role that women have played in orchestrating and participating in social movements in Tunisia, Egypt, and Yemen has cemented their position as equal partners to men in transforming the political landscapes in their countries.
