  • Soybean homeobox gene GmSBH1 has previously been proven to be involved in response to high temperature and humidity (HTH) stress. To investigate its expression patterns and active cis-elements, a 2040-bp 5’-upstream genomic DNA fragment of GmSBH1, named GmSBH1P, was isolated by PCR walking and characterized. Sequence analysis revealed that the fragment contains a series of cis-acting elements related to stress responses.

  • Yeast infections are often connected with formation of biofilms that are extremely difficult to eradicate. An excellent model system for deciphering multifactorial determinants of yeast biofilm development is the colony biofilm, composed of surface (“aerial”) and invasive (“root”) cells. While surface cells have been partially analyzed before, we know little about invasive root cells. In particular, information on the metabolic, chemical and morphogenetic properties of invasive versus surface cells is lacking.

  • β-D-glucans (beta-Glucan), a water-soluble polysaccharide with diversity physiological activities for applications in food and pharmaceutical industries. Methods: In this paper, we report the use of ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium chloride [BMIM]Cl on the extraction and isolation of β-glucan from baker's yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The β-D-glucans precipitated by adding water into the solution and obtained by filtration or centrifugation were pure, cleaned, and free of cell membranes.

  • In nature, there exist a wide variety of microbes that can be of any economical importance to humans. A specialized group of microorganisms includes pigmented yeasts. They are yeasts that develop colored pigment as their secondary metabolites. In this study, pigmented yeasts were isolated from different sample (soil, leaves, fruits, coconut, and air) on Sabouraud’s agar. Four strains were selected that showed pigmentation. Various morphological and biochemical tests were performed for identification of the strains.

  • Microorganisms produce certain commercially important secondary metabolites like antibiotics, carotenoid pigments, toxins and so on, some of which are of commercial importance. Carotenoid is a group of pigment and its production is a natural phenomenon in case of certain microorganisms. Yeast is a unicellular eukaryotic organism occurring in soil, air, feed and fodder of dairy farm environment. Among yeast, Rhodotorula sp. produces both extra and intracellular carotenoid pigments.
