UNIT 13: THE 22nd SEA GAMES E: LANGUAGE FOCUS I. AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON 1. Language focus - To introduce “Linking” and “Double comparison” to Ss - To help Ss practise pronouncing and doing exercises 2. Skills: To help Ss develop their practice skills 3. Attitudes: To encourage Ss work in pairs and groups II. PREPARATION 1. Teacher: - Teaching aids: Lesson plan, text book - Teaching method: Communicative language teaching 2. Students: - Read Unit 13 – language focus at home III. PROCEDURE 1. Class organization (1 minute) 2. Check – up (5 minutes) - Check the writing of some students 3. New lesson (35 minutes) STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES 1. Pronunciation: Pronunciation - Listen and take notes - Explain when linking takes place - Practise reading the sentence with linking + ending consonant + beginning vowel 2. Grammar: Double comparison Grammar - Look at the examples, form double comparison - Asks Ss to form double comparison + comparison and comparison Eg: smaller and smaller, better and better, worse and - Asks some Ss to give the answer worse, more and more famous then translate these sentences + the comparison + clause, the comparison + clause Eg: The more expensive the hotel (is), the better the - Asks some Ss to give the answer services (are) then translate these sentences Exercise 1 - Work individually do task 1 then compare the answer with their partners 1. more and more difficult 5. more and more talkative 2. more and more expensive 6. heavier and heavier 3. more and more nervous 7. better and better 4. bigger and bigger - Asks some Ss to give the answer Exercise 2 then translate these sentences - Work individually then exchange the answer with their partners. 1. shorter and shorter 2. more and more expensive 3. worse and worse 4. more and more complicated 5. better and better 6. more and more active 7. more and more difficult 8. closer and closer Exercise 3 - Work individually then exchange the answer with their partners. 1. the better I feel 2. the faster you will learn
