  4. Foreword and guidance notes Welcome to the Spirax Sarco 2002 - 2003 Product Handbook. Those of you who have used previous issues of our handbook will notice a few changes. Not least of these is that the handbook is 25% bigger than last time. How to use this handbook (Click here for how to use this CD version) The handbook consists of three main parts: - The colour section at the front that includes the contents, contact details and summary of the entire product range. - The main black and white sections containing the technical information and three indexes listing the pages by reference number (e.g. TI-P068-18), product number (e.g. TD52) and product name (e.g. Thermodynamic steam traps). - The colour fold-out section at the back that summarises the range of applications for which Spirax Sarco can provide a solution. Products are grouped together according to type or function and with similar products sub-divided into sections. These sections are numbered and can be seen in the contents, on the back cover and in the black tabs on the page edges. Page numbering starts from 1 within each section, for example the ninth page in section 5.7 is numbered '5.7.9'. Every double page spread of technical information has headings which identify the main product group and its sub-division. For example page 5.7.9 has the heading 'Steam traps' printed on the top left and its facing page has 'Thermodynamic' printed on the top right. Where possible the documents in this handbook are arranged according to their end connection and body material. Note: This is an international publication and not all products are available in all countries. Many companies can supply further products or services on request. These may include steam trap surveys, plant automation and packaged plant room systems. If the product or service you need is not listed contact your local sales company representative. These documents are for initial specification purposes only. Safety information together with installation and maintenance instructions are provided with every product. Consult your local Spirax Sarco office if you require help in correctly selecting your product. Go online with the worldwide service Spirax Sarco maintains a 'Technical Library' with all the latest technical and installation information on its worldwide websites. Visit www.SpiraxSarco.com and click on the Information Centre or select your country for more information. Quality approvals Spirax-Sarco Limited has a management system approved against the ISO.9001 standard. The current registration body used is Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). 5. Product handbook CD guidance notes Those who are familiar with Acrobat’s pdf format should find this CD version very simple to use. It quickly enables you to find the Technical Information Sheet you require. For those who are unfamiliar with Acrobat, these guidance notes will help you to get the most out of this CD. They explain how Acrobat’s navigation and search facilities help you find exactly what you want in the quickest way. Navigation of content The content of this CD version is exactly the same as the book version (apart from these notes), and the content is broken down into sections in the same way. Each section is held in a separate pdf. Within the Introduction section on page 3 you will find the contents page. Here you can click on the section and sub- section titles and go directly to that section (See Fig. 1). You can also use the bookmark navigation window (F5 key to hide/unhide) to easily navigate throughout the content sections (e.g. Boiler controls and systems) and subsections (e.g. Steam injectors). In the navigation window you will also find the Index section which is in three sections: • Index by product number (e.g. APT14) • Index by product name (e.g. Flowmeter) • Index by document number (e.g. TI-P133-02). By selecting one of these indexes you will jump directly to that index. Selecting an entry within the index will go directly to that page. If ever you do get lost within the CD please click on the PHBcover bookmark in the bookmark navigation window, this will take you back to the beginning. Fig. 1 Search facility Selecting the bookmark 'Find within this section' in the navigation window will bring a small window on screen, here you can type in a keyword, phrase or number. The first instance of this word or number will be highlighted on that page. If you select 'Find Again' the next instance will be highlighted, and so on throughout the current section's pdf. Selecting the bookmark 'Search within entire handbook' allows you to type in a keyword, phrase or number to search for, within the whole product handbook. You could type a product number e.g. APT14 or even a Masterfile reference number e.g. TI-P612-04. All the sections in the handbook with this word or number within it will be listed in a new 'Search Results' window (See Fig. 2). You will often get more than one result, this is because all the instances are listed where the word appears, including where it features in the Index. Highlighting one of the results and clicking on the 'View' button will jump to that document, with the word you searched for highlighted. You can move throughout the search results in the following way: To get to the next page ctrl + ] Previous page ctrl + [ Next document ctrl + shift + ] Previous document ctrl + shift + [ Fig. 2 NOTE: In some earlier issues of version 5.0 the search facility was not so easy to access. If you experience problems using the search facility in the product handbook, install the copy of Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 provided on this CD. Copying text or graphics for use in other applications Acrobat has a text selection tool (see in the toolbar) which allows you to highlight parts of the bodytext of the Technical Information Sheets (see Fig. 3). Selecting 'Edit' and 'Copy' from the drop down menus will copy the selected text to your clipboard for use elsewhere. There is also a graphics selection tool (see in the toolbar) which allows you to draw a marquee around a picture. Selecting 'Edit' and 'Copy' from the drop down menus will again copy the information to the clipboard for use in other applications. Other useful tools Acrobat also has a wide selection of tools, including zoom in and out, page size view, print, next, previous, first and last page buttons. Use the Acrobat help facility to find out more. To access it select 'Help' from the menu and click on 'Acrobat Help'. Fig. 3
