Mbuja (Bikalga; dawadawa botso; datou; Furundu) is a food condiment obtained by a traditional uncontrolled fermentation of Hibiscus sabdariffa seeds in African countries (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon and Sudan). This condiment is known for its nutritive values and for its health properties. In spite of its nutritional and healthy properties the consumption of Mbuja is less appreciated in urban areas.

Cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.] is a legume whose immature pods are consumed and marketed. However, it suffers yield losses due to attacks of aphid-transmitted mosaic disease. The present work is a study of the genetic resistance of twelve (12) varieties of vegetable cowpea to Cowpea Aphid-Borne Mosaic Virus (CABMV) at Kamboinsé. In the present study, flour from tabouchi or Xanthosoma sagitifolium tuber was analyzed for biochemical composition, physico-chemical, gelatinization and pasting property. It appears that the tuber is nutritious and the results showed that tabouchi is essentially a carbohydrate food (83% dry weight (dw)).

The purpose of this current investigation was to evaluate the free radicals scavenging ability and the anti-biofilm potent of fractions of ethanol extract from six tropical edible fruits. The capacity of extract to quench free radicals was measured spectrophotometrically by using four antioxidant models.

In Burkina Faso, despite the strengthening of food security and household incomes, the malnutrition in market gardeners children remains a concern in some regions. This study aims to assess drinking water quality and intestinal parasitic infections in two market garden sites to understand the persistence of malnutrition in these children.Drinking water (n=43) and stools(n=96) from children aged06-59 months were analyzed. Stool samples were subjected to the Kato-Katz and a formalin-ether concentration method for the diagnosis of helminths and intestinal protozoa infections.

This study aims at finding a concise understanding of the different modifications of the “nyù” noticed during the harvest. It specifically intends to give the effect of each type of soil on the morphology of the yam and on the choice of the producers. The results of this study shows that sandy soils produce tubers mostly appreciated with their filiform shape characterizing the “nyù”. As to the studied variables (Length, Diameter and Weight of the tuber), any significant difference has not been observed.
