This study aimed to isolate and identify marine fungi from Bai Tu Long Bay and assess their antimicrobial potential. We successfully isolated twenty strains of marine-derived fungi. The crude extracts from these fungi were tested against pathogenic microorganisms. All twenty strains exhibit some degree of growth inhibition against the tested microorganisms.

Zoanthid is a potential natural resource with many biological activities, such as antioxidant, antiviral, antiinflammatory, and cytotoxic activity. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activity of 70% ethanol crude extract and dichloromethane fraction from Zoanthus vietnamensis. The total polyphenol content of ethanol and dichloromethane extracts were 19.36 ± 1.37 and 24.95 ± 0.63 mg GAE/g extract, respectively.

The maceration was applied to the seeds of the plant to afford the crude extract which was then fractionated by liquid-liquid extraction to obtain the ethyl acetate extract. The extract was carried out by using normal phase silica gel column chromatography and thin-layer chromatography. Analysis of spectroscopic data including HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D-NMR and a comparison of the NMR data with that in the literature led to the structural elucidation of isolated compounds.

In this study, methanolic extracts from the stems, leaves and flowers of Ipomoea pes-caprae that were collected in Xuan Thuy National Park were evaluated for their antibacterial and antioxidative activities, and their ability to inhibit plant growth. The DPPH free radical scavenging activity of crude methanol extracts was evaluated.

Recently, we collected fruit bodies of Ganoderma neo-japonicum in Lamdong Province and found that the EtOAc crude extract obtained, having an IC50 value of 19.14 µg/mL, shows strong cytotoxicity against the KB cell line. This paper describes the isolation and cytotoxicity of four compounds from this mushroom.

The objective of the present investigation was to isolate and identify the antimicrobial activity showing actinomycetes associated with sponges. Sponges such as Acanthella klethra, Theonella cylendrica, Helicona sp., Auletta sp., and Callyspongia sp. were collected at Sangumal, in Rameswaram island, Ramanathapuram District, Tamil Nadu, India. Isolates of 22 actinomycetes were isolated from sponges. Isolates No. 16 showed high antibacterial and antifungal activity and the isolate was identified as Streptomyces sp.

Natural precious products such as aroma compounds, essential oils, and bio-activated materials are usually extracted from about 30,000 botanical species. These extracts are often high competitive market due to their small content (less than 1 %) in plants and high purification cost. Thus, development of a modeling for the optimization of the crude oil extraction is highly paid attention. In this work, a modeling of Vietnam lemongrass oil extraction using steam distillation is developed and the optimization of the process parameters is performed using response surface methodology (RSM).

From the antennae of the moth Mamestra brassicae, we have identified a lepidopteran G protein a subunit belonging to the Gq family, through immunological detection in crude antennal extract and antennal primary cell cultures, followed by molecular cloning. The complete cDNA sequence (1540 bp) contains an open reading frame encoding a protein of 353 amino acids.

Two distinguishable activity bands for dye-linkedl-proline dehydrogenase (PDH1 and PDH2) were detected when crude extract of the hyperthermo-philic archaeonPyrococcus horikoshiiOT-3 was run on a polyacrylamide gel. After purification, PDH1 was found to be composed of two different subunits with molecular masses of 56 and 43 kDa, whereas PDH2 was composed of four different subunits with molecular masses of 52, 46, 20 and 8 kDa.

Crude rat liver extract showed AMP–AMP phosphotransferase activity which, on purification, was ascribed to a novel interaction between adeny-late kinase, also known as myokinase (EC 2.7.4.3), and adenosine kinase (EC 2.7.1.20). After screening 25 marine invertebrates, a novel metallocarboxypeptidase (SmCP) has been identified by activity and MS analytical approaches, and isolated from the marine annelid Sabellastarte magnifica. The enzyme, which is a minor component of the molecularly complex animal body, as shown by 2D gel electrophoresis, has been purified from crude extracts to homogeneity by affinity chromatography on potato carboxypeptidase inhib-itor and by ion exchange chromatography.
