In paper "h-adaptive refinement strategies for triangular finite element meshes", we present two different approaches to h-adaptively refine triangular finite element messes. These two strategies are designed to keep the shape regularity of the meshes almost the same and to preserve the sparsity pattern of the resulting system of equations.

An improved six-node triangular finite element based on a twice-interpolation strategy (TIS) for accurately modeling singular stress fields near crack tips of two-dimensional (2D) cracks in solids is presented. In contrast to the traditional approaches, the approximation functions constructed based on the TIS involve both nodal values and averaged nodal gradients.

Basidiomata of a hitherto undescribed Limacella species were collected from the grasslands of Punjab, Pakistan. We describe it as Limacella subtropicana, which is characterized by its viscid, white to creamy pileus, white to the creamy stipe, changing to brown when bruised, subglobose basidiospores measuring 4.0–6.3 × 3.7–5.5 μm, an ixotrichodermal pileipellis with subcylindric to clavate terminal elements and the common presence of clamp connections in all tissues.

Dual formulations for finite element magnetostatic and magnetodynamic subproblems are developed to correct the inaccuracies near edges and corners of thin shell magnetic models. Such models replace volume thin regions by surfaces but neglect border effects in the vicinity of their edges and corners, which can cause inaccuracy in solving thin sheel problems.

An iterative sub-problem method for thin shell finite element magnetic models is herein performed to correct the inaccuracies near edges and corners arising from thin shell models (e.g., cover of transformers, thin shells, steel laminations). Volume thin regions are replaced by surfaces but neglect border effects in the vicinity of their edges and corners.

Top-base foundation (TBF) is a cutting-edge technology in construction area. It is in terms of increasing the load-carrying capacity of the ground, reducing settlement, especially the difference in settlement between the footings, resisting earthquake loads, fast construction, friendly environment, and low construction cost.

Silicene nanoribbons are one-dimensional materials made of silicene with hydrogen-modified edges. This work studies the doping of element Zn into silicene nanoribbons in the presence of an external electric field. There are two configurations studied here, top-configuration, valley-configuration.

The paper aims to extend the ES-MITC3 element, which is an integration of the edge-based smoothed finite element method (ES-FEM) with the mixed interpolation of tensorial components technique for the three-node triangular element (MITC3 element), for the buckling analysis of the FGM variable-thickness plates subjected to mechanical loads.

Effects of end-plate on the lateral buckling of doubly symmetrical I-section cantilever beam with free end restrained laterally are analyzed using the software COMSOL and linear shell finite elements. The torsional stiffness of the end-plate prevents the free warping of flanges and decreases the warping effective length of the cantilever beam.

In this paper, the subproblem method with using edge finite elements is proposed for coupling subproblems via several steps to treat and deal with some troubles regarding to electromagnetic problems that gets quite difficulties when directly applying a finite element method. In the strategy subproblem method, it allows a complete problem to define into several subproblems with adapted dimensions. Each subproblem can be solved on its independent domain and mesh without performing in whole domain or mesh. This easily supports meshing and decreases computing time.

Mixed mode I/II stress intensity factors of an edge slant-cracked plate under tensile loading were assessed. A two-dimensional finite element analysis was employed using ABAQUS. Various crack lengths and angles were analyzed. The effect of the crack location at the plate edge was also examined. Crack initiation angles were calculated.

This paper presents a numerical analysis of free vibration of thin circular and annular plate using finite element method. The first five natural frequencies are presented for uniform annular plates of various inner-to-outer radius ratios, with nine possible combinations of free, clamped and simply supported boundary conditions at the inner and outer edges of plates.

One of the specimens to investigate the mode-I fracture toughness of rock and geo-materials is semi-circular bend (SCB) specimen. In general, initial cracks in rock test specimens are produced in two shapes: straight-edge cracks and chevron notches. The ISRM suggested SCB specimen has straight shaped notch.
