The research using some advanced, environmentally friendly materials such as water-absorbing polymers and soil-binding polymers in potting medium is also a new direction to improve water retention. The study of manufacturing polybags with different degradation time combined with the use of SAP and PAM in substrates of pots to improve some features of the current nursery.

Soil erosion strongly affects crop yield, undermines the long term productivity of farm land and sustainability of farming system, and poses a major threat to the livelihood of the farmers and rural communities. The United Nations Environmental Program reported that the productivity of soil has reduced and resulting in economically unfeasible cultivation on about 20 million hectare of land each year due to soil erosion and resulting degradation of land.

Pest control practices in the vegetable crops have been heavily dominated by the routine use of broad-spectrum insecticides to control pests. Concerns have emerged about the adverse consequences of over use of pesticide. These consequences include short and longterm health hazards, contamination and environmental degradation. To minimize the pest losses farmers heavily depend on the chemical pesticides and accessing pest management information from the pesticide dealers due to weak state extension support system.

The research objective of the thesis is to select microorganisms capable of producing laccase, laccaselike from Ba Vi National Forest area, in herbicide / dioxin contaminated soil at Bien Hoa airport. Assessing the ability of decomposing herbicides containing dioxin and reactive dyes by laccase, laccase-like and VSV strains were selected to guide the application in defense activities.

We report the isolation of a novel antimicrobial peptide, bass hepcidin, from the gill of hybrid striped bass, white bass (Morone chrysops) · striped bass (M. saxatilis). After the intraperitoneal injection of Micrococcus luteus and Escherichia coli, the peptide was purified from HPLC fractions with antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli. Sequencing by Edman degradation revealed a 21-residue peptide (GCRFCCNCCPNMSGCGVCCRF) with eight putative cysteines.

Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) demonstrates by two-dimen-sional electrophoresis amicroheterogeneitybothas a soluble recombinant humanTH(hTH1) andas amembrane-bound bovine TH (bTHmem). Part of the heterogeneity is likely due to deamidation of labile asparagine residues. Wild-type (wt)-hTH1was foundtobeasubstrate for theubiquitin(Ub) conjugating enzyme systemina reconstitutedin vitrosystem.

Methylcitrate synthase is a key enzyme of the methylcitrate cycle and required for fungal propionate degradation. Propionate not only serves as a carbon source, but also acts as a food preservative (E280–283) and pos-sesses a negative effect on polyketide synthesis. To investigate propionate metabolism from the opportunistic human pathogenic fungusAspergillus fumigatus, methylcitrate synthase was purified to homogeneity and charac-terized.

BphH is a divalent metal ion-dependent hydratase that catalyzes the forma-tion of 2-keto-4-hydroxypentanoate from 2-hydroxypent-2,4-dienoate (HPDA). This reaction lies on the catabolic pathway of numerous aromat-ics, including the significant environmental pollutant, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). BphH from the PCB degrading bacterium,Burkholderia xenoveransLB400, was overexpressed and purified to homogeneity.

The bacterial Lsm protein, host factor I (Hfq), is an RNA chaperone involved in many types of RNA transactions such as replication and stabil-ity, control of small RNA activity and polyadenylation. In this latter case, Hfq stimulates poly(A) synthesis and binds poly(A) tails that it protects from exonucleolytic degradation. We show here, that there is a correlation between Hfq binding to the 3¢ end of an RNA molecule and its ability to stimulate RNA elongation catalyzed by poly(A)polymerase I.

Purified, nonubiquitinated growth-associated protein of 43 kDa (GAP-43) was attacked by purified reticulocyte 20S proteasomebutnotby the26Sproteasome.Cleavageyielded 12 N-terminally labelled GAP-43 fragments that could be resolved by SDS/PAGE. Inhibitor experiments suggested that proteasomeb1 activity yielded the resolved bands and that proteasome b5 activity generated nonresolvable frag-ments. Processive degradation, yielding only nonresolvable fragments, therefore did not occur.

The GM2-activator protein (GM2AP) is an essential cofactor for the degradation of ganglioside GM2 by lyso-somal b-hexosaminidase A. It mediates the interaction between the water-soluble exohydrolase and its membrane-bound substrate at the lipid–water interphase. Inherited defects in the gene encoding this glycoprotein result ina fatal neurological storage disorder, the AB variant of GM2-gangliosidosis. To elucidate the mode of action of this gly-coprotein cofactor, we synthesized the two photoaffinity labels [ 14 C]C3 -TPD-GM2 and [ 14 C]C7 -TPD-GM2. ...

Ribonuclease H1 (RNase H1) is a widespread enzyme found in a range of organisms from viruses to humans. It is capable of degrading the RNA moiety of DNA–RNA hybrids and requires a bivalent ion for activity. In contrast with most eukaryotes, which have one gene encoding RNase H1, the activity of which depends on Mg 2+ ions, Caenorhabditis eleganshas four RNase H1-related genes, and one of them has an isoform produced by alter-native splicing.

Vitamin C, a reducing agent and antioxidant, is a cofactor in reactions cata-lyzed by Cu + -dependent monooxygenases and Fe 2+ -dependent dioxygenas-es. It is synthesized, in vertebrates having this capacity, fromd-glucuronate. The latter is formed through direct hydrolysis of uridine diphosphate (UDP)-glucuronate by enzyme(s) bound to the endoplasmic reticulum mem-brane, sharing many properties with, and most likely identical to, UDP-glucuronosyltransferases.

Secondary transporters of the bacterial CitMHS family transport citrate in complex with a metal ion. Different members of the family are specific for the metal ion in the complex and have been shown to transport Mg 2+ –cit-rate, Ca 2+ –citrate or Fe 3+ –citrate. The Fe 3+ –citrate transporter ofStrep-tococcus mutans clusters on the phylogenetic tree on a separate branch with a group of transporters found in the phylum Firmicutes which are believed to be involved in anaerobic citrate degradation. ...
